Good on him if he did, but I've not read that unless you are referring to his theoretical nonsense 🙂 By the way, his theoretical nonsense, if you took his supposed write-ups, do not amount to that. They are around $5k as a multi. You would think such a punter would know how to do basic maths. Edited April 7, 2020 by mardigras
VC!
When you read about big wins at the Tab, they are usually from some form of exotic bet, not from a punter who’s account shows a positive ROI over time You will hear people say of their massive exotic win, then saying my account wasn’t closed, this is because the Corporates expect to get that back over time High Rollers room at the casino, they get A+ service, not because they are consistent winners, same goes for certain reckless Tab/Corporate punters I don’t know the exact percentage but back in 95 I did a stint working for the Tab (AUS) and back then the lease/franchise owner used to receive 1.7/1.8% commission on racing turnover and I think it was 5% commission on Sports turnover, I’m sure that’s changed now they also received an hourly rate for the hours they were open The very big bettors we used to go over the top to be nice to them, never ever ask them who they backed Edited April 7, 2020 by VC! I have met Glenn Munsie twice. He is the odds guru for the NSW TAB and is a very intelligent guy with an unparalleled knowledge of racing current and past. He recommended two excellent books for me to read which pertain to chance, probability, human behaviour in gambling scenarios, etc. The man is a genius. These people exist but they come at a price. The NZ TAB simply need to employ people who can set odds and make more for their organisation. Take on the "Ians" of this world and beat them or at least hold them at bay. Less $$$ for paper shufflers at Petone and more for people who can turn a profit from which the industry would ultimately benefit. What were the books PJ?

I wonder out the back of this if I will be even allowed to catch up for a wine and a feed within 2020, & we thought 2019 was an interesting yr. Hold that thought, Baz....glass half full and all that..it will taste all the sweeter when it happens.

They only do that when there is a lack of merit in their underlying argument and that is pointed out. As to the whitebait, just hope we're allowed to catch some. Righto. Thanks. Amazing how much is put out there about the industry - that people actually continue to believe. On one comment - if gifting the TAB to the racing industry/company, meant the government could wash their hands of it, I'd be all for it - one last gesture. Then the government could obtain income tax from the profits, remove any ministerial role specifically for racing and let them fend for themselves. Of course, I'd expect that things like pokies would be removed from that transfer - and that even sports betting might be gifted to a sports based 'company' in the same fashion. Each then looking after themselves. No more asking for more money. Brilliant. And without pokies and sport, the racing operation of the TAB (under the new 'company') would leave the industry a lot less than they get now - but at least they could do whatever they wanted with it, and have no one to blame except themselves for the outcomes.
