Double R Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 (edited) Will it be the North Island with : South Coast Arden, Copy That, Bad To The Bone, Kango, or Dance Time. or The South Island with the rest. I reckon the North Island may well have two of the first three in the finish. Any thoughts? Edited October 27, 2021 by Double R 1 Quote

Double R Posted October 27, 2021 Author Posted October 27, 2021 (edited) I will be a starter to be in your North Island cheerleaders group, Karrots. I have a feeling we are going to be very busy over Cup week, with the North Island Harness, and Thoroughbred representatives being very prominent in not only the big races, but the minor races as well. Let's get ready to rumble!!!! Edited October 27, 2021 by Double R Quote

South Coast Arden 5th, Copy That 6th, Bad To The Bone 7th, Kango 8th , or Dance Time 9th. My assessment sees Self Assured (with no handicap after easy win last year), A 'Dunn' runner , and either PembrookP or Laver making up the placings. 1 Quote
Double R Posted October 27, 2021 Author Posted October 27, 2021 Actually, I think we will get a nice entree to cup week on Monday in the Kaikoura Cup!!! 1 Quote

Self Assured is up against it this time and they wont make it easy for him should he step. If he bobbles away I cant see him winning for mine, there is too much class in that field to overcome from a handicap. My smoky would be Pembrooke Playboy of the Southerners. 2 Quote

A thorn in the side of ALLStars with a former Allstars trained horse. Mark and Nat would of had the last 7 Nz Cups otherwise. SMOLDA beaten narrowly by Arden Rooney, after galloping and losing 50m odd , made it all the more painful for them. Fun-fact 2 today . Kerryn Manning passed the 4000 winners driven marker, this year !! what an amazing achievement>>>> to put that in perspective the great nz Tony Herlihy MNZM has about 3500 driving winners 1 Quote

I think Herlihy's strike rate might be greater, although that means nothing really. Quote

Kerryn training way out in country Victoria, With a lot more day meetings available to drive at. but you still have to win em'. Still a wonderful feat to be the first Lady driver ever to win the Nz Cup. Tony has three of those I believe. Interestingly don't think either have won the Interdominion pacing Grand Final. ( My rated Absolute Pinnacle of Success) where Natalie R has gone totally mad, and won a stack of them, including the last one run at Auckland end of 2019. Tony winning quite a few with the Trotters though , being the driver for his brother's in law Mark and Barry for a long time . DIAMOND FIELD, PRIDE OF PETITE, BUSTER HANOVER all winning trot Interdom's for Tony driving. Some more homework for Karrots too lol, google the 1997 Interdominion trot where Tony came from 'last' to win by a snotter from the late amazing trainer of trotters Graeme Lang (the Scotch Notch man) and a 1/2 head to Kerryn Manning running third on her trotter. AMAZING and CLOSEST finish ever !!! Quote

AFTER watching these sad real life docos. Yeah those races only take a couple of minutes to watch . all done in 5 minutes. Netflix full of brutal stuff . I like more tame things. squids = no thanks. THE AGE OF ADALINE is a good one that you would enjoy karrots . If you are looking for something Netflix. Quite an entertaining story. Quote

Karrots, you should really disband your northern cheerleading squad as the thought of Globe and Double R 'cheerleading' is somewhat disturbing 🤣 The South will win the Cup anyway. That is a given. Also, SCA is a southerner isn't it? 😅 Quote

Double R Posted November 4, 2021 Author Posted November 4, 2021 One thing that will be certain, the winner of the Cup will be driven by a South Island driver. It is interesting how in the thoroughbred side of the sport, that riders who live in the Waikato, of which many parts are currently in level three, are able to travel to Riccarton to ride tomorrow. Lightning Blue Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 And the Queen of the North takes Victory (karrots) , with the NZ Champ second (Mark), and the Oz lass third (Nat). Congrats to Mr Orange driving and Mr Green training and Ms Karrots Cheering for COPY THAT !!! Another great NZ Cup winner in the record books. Quote

Yeehaa 😃 Copy THAT Roger That, good buddy. It was Over and Out shortly after the start. Last half in 54.31 is always going to be hard to beat. One horse that did put his hand up, in mind anyway, was Terry. His last half was the second fastest in the race, and his last 200 metres was the fastest. There were as many horses behind him at the finish, as were in front of him, so I think it was it very creditable effort. Edited November 10, 2021 by Double R Quote

Seemed to be 1 of the few from the back making a move forward last 600-700 metres. And had to go 3 wide entirely around that last corner. Not sure what his sectionals were. Funny on replay video there's a person you can clearly here over the commentator in crowd Yelling loudly "GO BLAIR" x3 times lol. Then says "yeah you little beauty". 😅😀 Kango's run was very commendable, and his sectionals were as good as I would expect, given him being three wide for the last 550 metres of the race. Quote

It was been an excellent week for North Island horses in the group races in Christchurch, winning a good proportion of the races at the trots and very dominate in the gallops. The north looks to rack anyone today at Riccarton, in the One Thousand Guineas, with a strong representation. Quote

Yes , Bolt for Brilliance held up the 'trotters' side of North v South extremely well. Would of broken the NZ '2 mile' record himself running 3rd, from way back of the field in the Dominion yesterday. What a jaw-dropping race that was.?? I was shocked they (Sundees Son) nearly broke 4.00 minutes last year. This year, SS in around 3.56.5 was quicker than Copy That winning the Nz Cup. quite amazing. Quote

In 1978, the Dominion, won by Scotch Tar was run faster, than the Trotting Cup. In 1980, when the Dominion was run on a Saturday, a week after Cup week, was won again by Scotch Tar. Scotch Tar had started the week before on Show Day, against the pacers in the N.Z. Free for all, and had showed blistering speed to clearly lead, and while fading in the straight, still beat five horses home. 1 Quote
