Hmmmm... maybe. But some of us built our knowledge overseas at our own expense then brought that back. It goes both ways.

    Weigh In Dec 12

I wouldn't so much describe it as parochialism as yes, partly self-interest, but more so a lack of consensus because a large portion of participants are not well informed like many in this discussion and tend to believe whatever the latest hopeful story is, like that the BUI charges would solve the problem for example when they were grossly overestimated and even though Treasury and the DIA told them that, lots hung their hat on it including some media "experts" who just spread the mistruths.

Totally agree. They did that, entering a global market place with no chance of competing and no clear business plan as to how they would do that. Ever since as they have proved they can't compete, they have been crying for help, saying the competition is unfair and needs regulation etc. They continue to do that. It is or was at least, the NZ TOTALISATOR Agency Board.

I don't see what they could possibly stitch together in Oz that would result in more rather than less money for the industry. And I'd be very surprised if there are no further cuts BEFORE the 2023/24 season.

Think you'd have to wind the clock back at least a decade and probably 15-20 years to do that.
  10. That would only be if there were a relevant regulation in the Gambling Act which there is not.
  11. Yes, I think that's about where I saw Mick squirming.
  12. Don't we already know that? As far as I'm aware it's only at the point of the Minister mulling over whether or not he has a case to present to cabinet for writing a bill and that has plenty of hurdles to even get that far by the time he considers issues such as Fair Trade, harm, equity for punters, public perception, loss of GST revenue etc. Can't see that progressing under the current government so hardly a hot issue at this point.
  13. Sound off but had a quick scan through to see if there was anyone interesting on. Thought I saw Guerin look like he was apologising about it before he asked the Minister a question. Couldn't think of anything the Minister could add to current topical knowledge anyway. What on earth would he bother asking him about?
  14. Anything interesting or just mostly replays of races we've all already seen?

    Wow Light Up

Got a bit of cream on top of the cake thanks. I only made him a bit better than a 5% chance but at $30/50/80/100 he was increasingly better value. The gate probably helped the price but for gate obsessed punters, I note that the 3 outside gates in that race finished 1st, 2nd and 4th.

Not really. " Cambridge-based Chittick wanted to donate that money to Starship but was turned down last week before the race was run. “Racing NSW have an initiative where part of the stake for some of their biggest races goes to charity, which I think is a wonderful thing,” Chittick told the Herald. “So I asked the officials over there last week could whatever money we win go to a New Zealand organisation. “They said it could, so I instantly thought of Starship because of the sick kids who they help and the support their families might need. “I rang them and after speaking to a few different people I found the right person, apparently, and told them the opportunity we had. “I said while I can’t guarantee you how much money it will be, I’d love to let the hospital have it. “They rang me back an hour later and declined. They were really polite about it but said they didn’t want to take money associated with racing or gambling.

Also he was very clear about what he told Starship when he made the offer that it would be some money regardless but that if they were lucky enough to win it could be in excess of 500k

That would still have given them half a day by Oz time to do their checking and I'm sure if Chitty had gone back to the charity/club whomever and said Starship have accepted subject to completing due diligence which may be tomorrow due to the fact it is late in the day here that would have been fine. Instead, it seems they just flat declined. Not really believable.

Yes, they seem to be back-pedalling faster than a Ferari in reverse. I'd like to see a clear clarification statement from Mark Chitty, not just the very vague whitewashed Starship version. I find it hard to believe that an extra 24 hours would not have been granted to Starship to do their necessary due diligence had it been requested.

    NZTAB GST?

Yes thanks Mardi. That's correct. I stopped being lazy and looked up an annual report.

    NZTAB GST?

Does the NZTAB pay GST on net betting revenue, or is it exempt?
