  2. Be careful fellas, we have 8 women, that I know of, a cat, several other furry animals and an old woman, that read or post on this site
  3. Surprisingly enough there are women out there that are right into their horse racing as well. Wouldn't that be bliss
  4. Ever thought about trying an online dating site LB
  5. Only just, if Territory Express did not appear in the last 20m to claim Detonator Jack, I had you and from a long way behind
  6. It is going to be interesting to see the comment on this thread after Imperatriz races at WFA again tomorrow. I get an inkling, that if she wins well, then the extrapolation will be made, that weight does matter, even though it is only 1 race
  7. Nasty cut to Rees Walsh last night. I put a $50 anytime try scorer bet on him (to pick up a $50 NRL bonus bet), and thought I had done my dough, but the TAB refunded the $50
  8. Have you noticed that her voice goes up an octave when she thinks she has latched onto some new gossip A very ordinary broadcaster in my view
  9. The only aspiration that I have, is that the site does not become a toxic environment, like so much social media, where anything goes, all in the name of click bating (misery attracts misery), but that people enjoy the site with the comps, discussion, punting threads, punters club and a few more things. We have some very skilled, knowledgeable and passionate racing people on the site, which is what makes the site what it is
  10. That is very sad and sorry to hear LB. I hope the racing and this site will comfort you a little bit
  11. Through my working life, one thing that I was taught that has stuck with me, more than anything else.......Speak with data And from what I can see, that is what Mardi, Barry and Curious are doing, and while it may be difficult for some/many to comprehend or accept things in racing that have gone back many years, the data speaks for itself. Add to that, they are applying this to punting and appear to be making money
  12. By the way OM, you missed, the earth is flat, Covid was a conspiracy, the CIA arranged the shooting of Kennedy and organised 9/11 lol lol.
  13. These guys (Mardi, Barry and Curious) have all the data to support their stance, as opposed to people's perceptions based on very little. Why wouldn't I concur with their reasoning. And I have a science background, so I fully understand the laws of physics. In fact I used to agree with the thinking that weight or extra distance run due to a wide barrier draw must have an affect. But these guys have crunched the data and shown the effect to be very minimal, and that there are many other factors that nullify the impact of weight or barrier
  14. Hahaha, and something widely practiced in recent times, when all the know all's proudly announced 'I've done my own research' when it came to Covid, vaccines etc etc, when all they had done was look up stuff that agreed with their already entrenched beliefs
  15. Most trainers have obtained their knowledge from working for a more senior experienced trainer, who obtained theirs in a similar manner and so on. So it is not beyond the realms of possibility that such beliefs have been passed down from an age, as mentioned in this thread, when there was a large weight spread and big weights were carried by horses.

    Update on Avondale

Avondale Racecourse rezoning: community concerned by potential for thousands of homes By Ben Leahy 19 Mar, 2024 06:00 PM It comes as it has now been revealed a proposal to rezone the 35ha Avondale Racecourse into land suitable for apartments and terrace houses will be heard in October or November. Auckland Council values the racecourse at $77.5 million. However, rezoning the land for intensive housing could see its value shoot up to $300m, the Avondale Business Association says. ADVERTISEMENT Advertise with NZME. The association has called a community meeting on March 28 so residents can learn more about the rezoning proposal and try to have a say in what happens to the land. “We are wanting to make people aware of the proposal,” the business association chair Marcus Amosa said. Business Hub: Lawyer, maunga chief Paul Majurey - 'Ultimately ... “The local community wants to be considered for any future decisions that affect the racecourse because it’s an important community space for us.” A future sale of the track has been in discussions for years now as attendances at its racing events have dropped off and it was identified as a track that should be closed in a 2018 government-commissioned report into the industry. ADVERTISEMENT Advertise with NZME. Racing events were held at the track last year but are set to wind up by the end of 2025, if not sooner. Owners of the track, the Avondale Jockey Club, have already sold off land on the fringes of the track with a joint venture by Marutūahu and developers Ockham buying 1.58ha in July 2022. The joint venture now plans to spend $550m building 750 apartments in eight blocks of up to 10 storeys. Should the Avondale Jockey Club sell the rest of the racecourse land, it could reinvest the money back into horse racing. Clow said in some cases in smaller towns, racing clubs forced to close their tracks had gifted their land to local councils in recognition it has been a valuable community space. He hopes half of the 35ha Avondale course can be retained as green space, through a combination of sports fields and parks. As a minimum, he hopes space can be retained for the highly popular Avondale markets. Clow said ratepayers spend about $330,000 a year supporting the track by renting its inner fields as sports grounds and renting space for the markets. Amosa said it’s important any future developments are master-planned with the community in mind and that the land isn’t sold off in small parcels. The Avondale Jockey Club has been approached for comment.
  17. Impact being minimal in today's racing world being the key point. If you extrapolated it out and put a 50kg weight bag on a horse or 10kg in a backpack on a runner, of course their performance is going to decline, because they are going to have to expend so much more energy running the same distance than if there was not that extra weight
  18. The laws of physics are exactly the same for horse and human, with weight or more correctly mass being part of calculating energy expended. But many other factors come into it, such as the capacity and efficiency of the circulation system to pump blood and therefore oxygen around the body. One of the reasons why there are many factors in determining winners other than barrier draw and weight carried. Phar Lap had a heart a lot bigger than average. Peter Snell had a resting heart rate in the 40's A shame horses can't talk lol
  19. I guess applying the basic principles of physics, leads many to the conclusions they come to, namely 1. Carrying more weight, must mean more energy is expended which will result in the reduced performance as mass is part of any kinetic energy equation, E = 1/2 mv2 2. Running a slightly longer distance because of a wide barrier draw also means more energy expended so also the same effect on performance That this does not happen, suggests there are many other factors that influence performance
  20. It would seem like lunacy to play our triple joker against the 2nd top team, and lamplighter for much of the comp and deservedly so. BUT, we actually beat you in the first round, so maybe not such a crazy idea

    Cameron George gone

And I see that many of the critics still don't get what is happening in the racing industry with Entain. Yes, it is correct to say that they have no control over NZTR, but as I have said before, he who pays the piper plays the tune. Do people seriously think that all these 100's of millions of dollars that they are pouring into NZ racing, is being done without a close eye being kept on how and where it is spent. It is a no brainer, because if it is not spent correctly then wagering does not increase and Entain lose in the end, and they are not going to sit back watch that happen Cameron Rodger would be in regular contact with NZTR over where money should be going, the tracks issue and programming issues. As I have said before, pressure from Entain over the myriad of track issues, is probably what saw the end of Cameron George, and Bruce Sharrock will be next unless he pulls finger
  22. In addition to the replies, they also make sense with regard to what they say about wagering The industry you are/or have been involved in BR, is funded by punter losses, so that is a hell of a lot of punters losing a lot of money. So, it makes sense to not do what all those other punters do, and look at different ways of appraising form, other than the accepted norms
  23. As an aside, anyone getting angry when bets lose, should probably give it a miss
