    New TAB website

I have to say, things are a lot quicker and they have made some upgrades. Also since upgrading to the latest phone, all seems fine. I just wonder, how many of those unhappy, are on old technology like me, old browsers or version of Windows I still note though, that the race title has no info on the stake offered, group status etc Also, you can't click on a trainer/jockey to see what other runners/mounts they have at the meeting

    Cody Singer

Just to note, Cody Singer Memorial Steeplechase today, sponsored by the family A young man who took his own life, must have been a very difficult day today

    Silver Ferns

An example of another sport that has jazzed up it's image(and players) and promoted the heck out of it. You might recall how boring they used to look a few years ago
  5. The same applies to jelly tips and chocolate bars Could be that, when you are smaller, they look bigger, who knows

    Silver Ferns

Yep, such a rapid turnaround in fortunes, rarely seen in sporting circles.
  7. A few parallels here with the dramatic turn around of the NZ Netball team under Noeline Taurua. Clearly the best candidate around, yet not even short listed when she applied, only to watch NZ go on to it's most disastrous result by not even medalling at the CG's. When finally sense prevailed, she set a goal, got the right playing and coaching personnel in place and got on with it and made it happen, her way. With racing, we watch it move closer to the abyss, as it gets bogged down in bureaucracy. Winston made a pretty bold move in appointing Messara, you have to give him that, but by the time, if and when anything comes out of it all, it will be 2 years!! And even then, it will be very debatable as to whether it was all worthwhile
  8. She seems to have managed to squeeze out another year A case of the 2 sides using each other for gain
  9. Barry, you are the only person, I have ever seen, comment(see below) on the need for professional marketing to boost racing in NZ(an old hobby horse of mine). The only issue, where does the money come from, marketing expertise and time in the various forms of media, cost a lot of money. Triple Trio was an attempt, but done poorly "Engage an experienced marketing company to support the heavy promotion and development of Summer racing"
  10. Deacon Frey. Don Henley said when Glenn Frey died, that was it, until he heard Deacon sing at his dad's memorial

Having dived for many years, there is only one thing better than a whitebait fritter sandwich, a crayfish tail sandwich. Can only dream now

Only another 3 hours to New Plymouth, a lot better fields(Carey Hobbs does a great job with that club), awesome drive(sort of), whitebait fritters at Mokau, Barry knows all about whitebait

I've been keeping an eye on Suliman(last race), since the tracks turned heavy. Must be just about ready to win tomorrow Some of these other guys will do the decent thing

    RITA - progress

Board has required further work to be undertaken to reduce expenditure so as to increase confidence in our ability to support the agreed distribution level for next season That's positive
  17. A temporary role She is a tough nut and knows the ropes, so probably employed by GRNZ to try and make sure greyhounds get their share of the pie. If you recall, the Messara report didn't have anything much to say about greyhounds. GRNZ Submission on the Messara Report GRNZ proposes incremental funding be based not on the 25% + 25% + 50% formula, but rather, 100% of code contribution to NZRB profitability from both domestic and international wagering - which equates to: ● Thoroughbred Racing 59.9% ● Harness Racing 20.3% ● Greyhound Racing 19.8% That's quite a bit more than the average 16% they have received over the last 5 years
  18. Cricket is a funny game though, an English upper class bastion, full of more etiquette than most other sports put together. The Aussies rode roughshod over a lot of that, and look where that got them. Talking of England and Aussie, the Ashes start at Edgbaston on Aug 1

    Moon landing

With the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11's moon landing being yesterday, and all the coverage on the History Channel, my son's fiancee, swears blind that it was all a hoax....what can you say
  21. I guess this is one definite rule change we will see, any accidental deflection, the umpire must rule as a dead ball
  22. I note that Ben Stokes went to the umpire and said he wanted the 4 runs from the boundary taken off, but the umpire said he could not as it was the rules. Normal cricket 'etiquette', is that a ball being accidentally deflected into the field, the batsmen doesn't run, but if it deflects to the boundary the ump must score it as 4. A fascinating situation....only if you are a Pom. Imagine the uproar within England had the umpire acceded to Stokes request

    TAB Website

The site seems to be getting faster with more info being added, such as the form, seems quite good now, but why go live when you are not up to speed. As they say, 10 times harder to regain a lost customer. I upgraded from a Samsung 3 to a 10, and it seems to be working well on that. The screen on the old phone was so badly cracked, that over a period of time, I think i have worn off the finger prints on the offending finger
