Previous encounters:

ROUND 7

3 MUCH TOO FAST (6th)

$1289.80

2 points

2 THE JAMES GANG (4th)

$1163.00

0 points

Neither of The James Gang's two chances to turn it around fired so MTF held on with only Zac tipping the final winner. Pete pipped Hesi by $1 for their side's MVP honours and was unlucky to draw Man of the Match Rex who put up a big total. No bonus points were earned.Congrats to Craig breaking through for his first win (just!). I think I did predict that Rex would be in for an action-packed match and with over $800 scored between him and Pete I wasn't wrong !

128.00 Zac

175.00 Jack

346.00 Craig

324.00 Hesi

142.00 Ashoka

135.00 Steve P

186.00 Howie

204.00 Blind Squirrel

487.80 Rex

325.00 Pete

ROUND 14

1 MUCH TOO FAST (3rd)

$747.20

0 points

4 THE JAMES GANG (4th)

$1210.80

3 points

Jen Rules tried hard for MTF but 4th was her lot so The James Gang held on for a much needed win. No one tipped the final winner. Craig, the sole MTF personal winner, was Man of the Match while Pete pipped Blind Squirrel for MVP honours for The Gang who took a bonus point for a 4-1 margin.

147.00 Zac

253.00 Jack

32.00 Rex

207.00 Steve P

321.00 Craig

274.00 Pete

112.60 Ashoka

209.80 Hesi

134.60 Howie

267.00 Blind Squirrel

Who wants to frame a market for the Grand Final? Mustelid Maths has used a system ranking the 10 players on Average weekly earnings over 15 Rounds ...

The James Gang in GREEN; MTF in RED

Rank      Avg $$               H2H W

1 Zac      $253.05            7

2 Pete   $245.45             5

3 Ashoka $236.20          7

4 B Sqrl  $224.45           10

5 Steve P $220.15           7

6 Hesi   $215.40              4

7 Jack    $211.20           10

8 Rex     $203.70             9

9 Craig  $200.60             8

10 Howie $193.25          6

 MustelidMathoMeter says:

·         Team with rankings, 2,4,5,6,7 (TJG)  beats team ranked 1,3,8,9,10 (MTF)
           by 3 matches to 2

·         Total win/loss record favours MTF narrowly – 37-36

·         On H2H record, winners will be Craig; Rex, Blind Squirrel, Jack –
           Steve P
and Ashoka tied!! (countback decision???
)

Good luck predicting the winners in this one!

Yes who could possibly have imagined that individual aggregates wouldn't determine the final outcome??

Good luck to both teams in the final.  I think the James Gang will eek out a narrow victory - sorry Howie have to tip them because they beat us in the semis 🙂

No problem, John .... it's an entirely reasonable call .... after all 'The James Gang' beat us 4-1 only a matter of a couple of weeks ago .... as I said last week pre-semis, the momentum is definitely with them.

In fact going into the semis last Saturday we MTF had played the other 3 semi-finalists in a total of 6 matches ....and we had lost 5 of those 6 matches !

So I readily take your point about aggregates, John ... useful information for sure ...but when it comes down to it it's all about winning in the big moments. We MTF had the most lucrative Joker points haul of any team in the comp in Round-Robin, we won big-time in those two big moments against Roland's Roughnecks, when other teams weren't so fortunate against the longshot gurus.  And those Joker successes more than anything secured us our semi-finals berth. And last Saturday in our semi Zac saw us MTF home at the 11th hour in a big moment, as a result of him seeing something in a horse that the rest of us MTF and Maximillions didn't see.

Small margins and big moments.

And the Grand Final this Saturday will come down to pretty much that ... a couple of small margins and a couple of big moments. And for that reason I see us MTF in with a great shot at taking this whole thing out come Saturday, because whether by design or most likely by simple good luck, we've been strong in the big moments.

Top class opponents 'The James Gang' .... it's all ahead of us 'MTF' and there's plenty of work to do. Hesi, Pete, Blind Squirrel, Jack, Steve P ....all outstanding tipsters. Gonna be very, very hard to beat.

But we 'MTF' go in with a good degree of confidence.  I mightn't have done a great job to date in  picking racehorses in this comp, but I sure chose the 'MTF' roster well.
Zac - the last player into our lineup out of the draft, but the only one of us in the 'Magnificent 7. Rex - consistently very, very good week in-week out - the glue that holds us together.
Craig - dropped his first four matches in the comp but has been well-nigh unbeatable ever since. It's no coincidence that as Craig's fortunes rose the MTF's fortunes and leaderboard standings rose in a like manner. Ashoka - one of the most sought-after players in any draft draw, and has been inside the 'Magnificent 7' most weeks of the comp.
That'll be plenty enough for 'The James Gang' to be going on with ! 😃

Am very much looking forward to an excellent Grand Final match between two teams 'The James Gang' and the 'Much Too Fast'  both teams can take pride in having gone the distance.

It's been a great comp, PJ. Thank you.

Given the punishment Pete and Hesi have taken at various stages of the comp the Grand Final will be just reward for them. Two guys who took some serious poundings even when racking up decent scores themselves and yet here they are in the GF ! Gives hope to us all.....

Some news for comp race 9:

Maloney To Ride Baccarat Baby

Thursday, 25th June 2020

Trainer David Vandyke has opted for a change of jockey for Baccarat Baby (Casino Prince-Meerlust, by Johannesburg) in the Gr3 Sapphire Stakes at Doomben on Saturday, reported racingqueensland.com.au. Ridden by Michael Hellyer in most of her career, Baccarat Baby will have the services of Ryan Maloney. Maloney moved to Queensland halfway through 2018, and rode Alligator Blood (All Too Hard-Lake Superior, by Encosta de Lago) to victory in the Gr1 Australian Guineas for Vandyke. Maloney is currently second on the Brisbane jockey's premiership with 62 wins, behind apprentice Baylee Nothdurft who has 73.5 wins. "Michael will still get rides from me but I'm keen to get Ryan on as many of my horses as possible from now on," Vandyke said. "He's not locked in as my stable rider and he's still free to get other rides if he thinks they're better. We've got a good association with a 39.5 per cent winning strike rate with 28 wins from 71 races." Baccarat Baby has won 8 of her 22 starts, and been placed another seven times for earnings just under $500,000. Her best result to date was a win in the Gr3 Sunshine Coast Guineas in 2019.

Comp race 7 preview (Racenet):

Waller roughies aiming for a Civic reception

Waller roughies aiming for a Civic reception
Dealmaker defeats Sambro in the Racing To Win Handicap. Photo: Steve Hart.
Article Author Chris Waller plans to be the hunter rather than the hunted in the feature race at Rosehill on Saturday - the Listed Civic Stakes (1350m).

Waller will saddle up five runners in the $150,000 feature sprint on his home track but all are currently double figure odds well adrift of the $4.40 favourite Home Of The Brave from the James Cummings stable.

“The betting market is right more than it is wrong but I’ve got five runners that I am pretty sure are capable of running well and if things fall their way they will be in the finish,” Waller said.

Waller’s contenders are Sambro (James McDonald), Order Again (Sam Clipperton), Dealmaker (Brenton Avdulla), Romani Girl (Robbie Dolan) and Toryjoy (Rachel King).

The leading trainer accepted with Sure Knee (Jason Collett) but she looks likely to head north to Brisbane for the Group lll Sapphire Stakes (1630m) where the daughter of Snitzel is a $7.50 chance.

Sambro, Dealmaker and Order Again clashed three weeks ago in the Racing To Win Handicap where Dealmaker got the result by 1-1/2 lengths from Sambro with Order Again far from disgraced in fourth.

“They are in great order,” Waller said.

“The distance suits Sambro better but he will need luck from the poor gate.

“Dealmaker has been bouncing around the stables for the past week or so. I think he knows he won last start.

The soft draw will help Dealmaker perhaps be a little closer at the turn.”

“Order Again is only new to the stable but we were very pleased with his first run for us.

“He wasn’t beaten far the other day and we gave him a trial last week and to keep him ticking over and his rider was very happy.

“The track conditions will probably help him on Saturday, so we are expecting another good effort.”

Waller’s final two runners for the feature winter handicap are Romani Girl and Toryjoy. Both horses are expected to relish the heavy conditions.

“Romani Girl is the type of mare that bobs up when you least expect it,” Waller said.

“Her first-up run here was very good when from the back in a race dominated by the on-pacers then we sent her to Queensland.

“First run up there was very good then she didn’t fire.

“Since she arrived back here she hasn’t put a foot wrong.

“Toryjoy had no luck first-up.

“The wide barrier may help her on the weekend. She is a mare that likes to stride whether she leads or not as long as she has room and can do her own thing.

“She has come on very well after that run and is certainly capable of being in the finish here.”

Dealmaker and Toryjoy are the shortest of the Waller handful at $11. Order Again is a $14 chance, Sambro is $15 with Romani Girl at $19.

“I’ve got five chances that are all capable of running well and being in the finish,” Waller said.

“None of them are the fancied few but they are all well and ready to run well.

“Whoever handles the track the best will play a big role in who wins the race.”

PJ's Friday Fling

Probably an each way chance (20/30 unit stake recommended) - our own fella Deepwood Vale takes on 12 opponents in race 5 at his home track here in Scone today and will appreciate coming back to the Hunter from Rosehill and the improved track conditions. Currently $3.80/$1.70 fixed odds

Also for a bit of value, the whisper from South of the border is Inspired Sun in race 5 at Geelong (Go those Cats !) today. Currently $4 FO. Has great record at this track and for jock John Allen

Too wide and too late, probably not his best ride.

Tried hard but a bit one paced, unfortunately. No harm done on the staking plan I suggested. Better luck tomorrow

crikey it is clear the Mustelid's idea of VALUE is different than these two (Deepwood Vale and Inspired Sun), both faves and both beaten with minuscule place divvies for the EW punter.

Try this two tomorrer: Riaccarton R7 #13 Scarfi $5.00 FF
Doomben R6 #13 Murless $34.00 FF

GRAND FINAL DAY !

Good morning, folks. Big day ahead .... 14 Saturday's of Round-Robin, 1 Saturday of Semi-Finals ....and it all comes down to this.
By 6.40pm, we will have found the Champion team.

I'll get straight into this, having alighted upon these 20 equine superstars to carry the flag for me today.
I'm up against a wily and very successful long-time campaigner in Jack, so I'll need to be right on my game. Good luck, Jack.
If I can strike good form today and help put my 'Much Too Fast' right in this, then my lowly aggregate leading into this will be but a fading memory.

  9                    Sebago
18                    Dream Runner

R10)
11                Malea Magic
12                Accelerato

A hearty congratulations to my "teamies" Craig, Rex, Zac & Ashoka for making the Grand Final, and also to 'The James Gang''s Steve P, Hesi, Pete, Blind Squirrel, and Jack for being Grand Finalists. A very, very good team finished 8th of 8 in this very even competition, which underpins the significant achievements of our two teams in making it 'Top Two'.

Us 'Much Too Fast' will be very, very pleased when we take this thing out today .... and will savour the big moment ..... before it's back to reality as comrades become adversaries when a 'Mighty Blues' v 'Crusaders' match in the opening round of PJs next comp sees a Craig v Howie clash first-up !

Good luck to both teams today. Let's hope our scores do justice to the big occasion.

Many thanks for your brilliant running of this comp, PJ. It's been an excellent and very welcome entertainment through the difficult weeks of pandemic.

Let the games begin ! 😊

Howie
