PWJ
Okay, here's one that may prove a little tougher: 1. Which horse won the Taranaki Stakes (now known as The Taranaki Cup) the next start after failing in the Melbourne Cup ? 2. Who was the famous horse who ran 2nd in that Taranaki Stakes, just his 2nd career defeat in 10 starts (his first had been over 10f at Riccarton) and went on to beat the subject horse in the next two starts - both at Hawera ? ngakonui grass
Is Furys Order or The Phantom Chance somewhere involved? Edited November 3, 2022 by ngakonui grass

Both wrong i think because metric dist didn't come in until 71/72 and being beaten over 10 furlongs would suggest that. Was the race in question Canterbury Gold Cup.I'M THINKING BETWEEN 63/71? PWJ
Perhaps something a bit tougher this week..... WHO AM I ? I won 2 of my first 3 starts as a 2yo but afterwards scored just one other win in 24 subsequent starts. The best race I contested was a NZ Classic won by a legend, with another legend running 2nd. I later stood at stud as did my full brother. My mother couldn't win in 15 starts but she was placed in a Wellesley.

PWJ
15 hours ago, ngakonui grass said: wild guess ALL GLORY and Vice Regent.? No but I can see where you were going with that NG. I knew Vice Regent very well as a mate of mine stood him. Jumped a yard fence when he was an unbroken yearling and got a mare pregnant. The foal turned out to be quite handy so after retirement unraced due to injury he became a stallion. He was the most inactive horse I ever met, Would stand in one spot all day and only move for food or water. I joked to my mate that he would have a heart attack one day if bothered to exert himself and i'm afraid that's what happened. rather sad. Back to the subject horse - he only had 68 foals....
