  1. Good point Globe, without a doubt dams side come into it. Agree re l like Lous speed & same again thinking ABM seems similar. So just got to get that 1 that has that speed & the dams influence to bring the stamina & staying ability thru 👍 And yip again was thinking that re Bettors seem to have ALL distances, tempos under control Down Under.
  2. Hehe, I only figured it out as have that Karrots memory 😇 Not sure anyone else had figured it out. Funnily enough was actually going to mention him on this weeks midweek edition, but left it. It was going to be the difference how horses last season had beat him & this season he has grown/matured & come back beating them. Id been keeping an eye on him anyway because of you 👀 Next weeks edition Ill see if I can find some stuff to add on him - Downbytheseaside 👍😀
  3. Had eyes on Karrots Black Booker in New York Minute. Didn't take ONLY as didn't trust his stand start + based off Unruly. Got out this time, but LATE & ran on nicely for another 4th. Again unlucky after getting stuck 4 back fence. Take no credit away from the winner tho & noted that Ottley switched drive off NYM to Deny Everything. Nice win. 5 on the trot now 👍
  4. Surprised he isn't starting fav. Based on its his pet distance & he beat his rivals on time last start & he has the draw. And speed to lead. How do they think they will beat him ... ? Unless this track has a LONGGGGG straight like Addington & Menangle .... If NOT, then not sure how they think they will pick him up in time. Well lets see Monday ...
  5. Wait Iv just clicked to who you are, Poster version that is. If correct … your horse is doing AMAZING this time in. So cool & super exciting!!! Very happy for you 😄
  6. Hello & welcome, another Newbie like me here 🤗 No idea there Royal Nod re frozen semen vs stallions that shuttle here. Someone on here might? Am starting to wonder if different styles of racing & different distances suit different sires offspring better or worse? Take Lous NZ so far, the top ones e.g. Spirit of St Lou, Fabrizio, Aladdin, Sweet On Me, Sugar Me. Lets look at Sweet On Me. ALL her wins were short distance & the 1 race she was beaten in was 2200m by Amazing Dream. (Note The Dream had the run of race & she had to midrace move & sit parked to factor in). BUT none of the above have performed YET TOP level over distance e.g over 2200m & have flopped at distance over 2200m. Plus am noticing at Menangle his NZ breed exported are performing well over hard fast mile. Think USA racing is also miles or similar those top races were he has STARS. Then take a look at Lancewood Louie & ALL his short distance races 1980m he has won or placed. Then any at 2600m ALL he has been ‘Also ran’. Same thing with Sugar Me. And Fabrizio performed better at 1980 than 2200m. Heard peeps say trainers opinions varies e.g. his stock “like pace on” - another said they are “late bloomers”, another said they are “great to break in”, another "not so great to break in”. So everyone has their own perception, experience. For me the distance thing is the thing that am noticing re Lou USA compared to NZ compared to Oz. Plus they are friendly & nice natured. Could SBSW had something different re racing in USA that differs to racing in NZ that resulted in his performance levels lower than expected here … ? Could Captain T potentially be the same ... ?
  7. Yes, for sure. And hospo industries all around are taking massive hits. Very sad for them & stressful times. Was just thinking could be a opportunity to ramp up marketing to those in North Island particularly Auckland. Not sure how many peeps actually know about Harness NZ Cup Day & Dominion, when its on etc, outside of Harness industry itself in Auks. Remember last year approx 4-6 weeks prior CUP day heard on car radio in Auks an NZ Cup promotion, a guessing game. Guess right & win. Q - Which horse name is NOT a horse 3 to select from? 1. Spankem 2. AGs White Socks 3. Random name A - They guessed WRONG from memory think they guessed AGS White Socks was NOT name lol. It was funny to listen to. Anyway with a lot of peeps at home, not working or working from home level 3. Could be a GREAT opportunity to somehow reach them to flick on Sky or go to HRNZ website & click on the TAB watch channel & have a fun bet on Cup. Mind you then they would have to se up TAB account & peeps might be reluctant to do that outside of the industry. Too much effort lol. Anyway yes be interesting to see how things pan out. Hoping for the best with the current circumstances.
  8. Here's a nice article just noticed on HRNZ about the 3 trained by N Purdon. Bettor Twist to make her Aus debut. https://www.hrnz.co.nz/news/bettor-twist-90-per-cent-for-aussie-debut/
  9. Hi Addington & welcome Im a newbie too here 👋😃 That was sad re U May Cullect. He had that speed & stamina too. On another note below is another article about Cup no BIG crowd announcement. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/racing-new-zealand-cup-week-cops-major-covid-blow/6SCEMQ6WFIE2MOELRRJESLOUWA/ Within article was this quote. "The one silver lining to the Cup week crowd reductions for both clubs is if Auckland remains in lockdown during Cup week the turnover on the race meetings will be through the roof". "So much of the country's betting turnover comes out of Auckland and Saturdays Hastings and Ashburton thoroughbred meetings boasted enormous turnovers as people in northern regions have few other live entertainment options, matching digital turnover trends worldwide during lockdowns". Peeps love to run down Aucklanders, BUT according to this article y'all need us 😉
  10. FYI - Amazing Dream - Spellbound - Bettor Twist make an appearance Sat at Geelong. But kept apart by trainer N Purdon. Check-In also races at Geelong for Kiwi owners R10. The Dream in G2 has drawn the pole & 1 of her opposition is ex Kiwi Tango Tara. Spellbound in G3 has drawn 2nd row. Bettor Twist drawn 2nd row in a 3y-o fillies race. Check-in draws 1.
  11. Liking Majestic Mans chances at Ashburton next up over the short distance with that draw to lead. He should be hard to roll be off and gone like this won't he

    PETA

They have gone over past decade from HERO to ZERO for me. 2012 They flour bombed Kim Kardashian, resulting in her sister Khloe pulling support saying she was once a big supporter, but she is also a supporter of anti bullying & that crossed line. Seen images of them 1/2 naked in a busy Oz street to protest. 2019 They did NOT gain permission to do a protest at St Lukes Supermarket Auckland. They stood infront of meat section. An angry shopper told them he was “disgusted that they were there”. They filmed supermarket shoppers & a shopper was seen in an argument saying she didn’t give her permission. Saying “Im doing my f..kin shopping”. They were told to “F off”. They were escorted out of supermarket by security. Then once kicked out of supermarket by security they moved to the food court where they stood around the food court holding up their STOP eating animals signs. Here’s their video of it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpMZuR76apw 4. Think they maybe tried to stop trains heading to Melbourne Cup or something ... 5. Recently they went off about a CGI computer generated (not real) cockfighting . e.g. video games. Have they seen Fortnight amongst others with all the shooting. 6. Didn’t they dress up as meat with Blood on or something somewhere ... MOST headlines can recall for some reason are of OTT behaviour & border-line CRAY CRAY Those videos All Mic-ed up with video on drivers helmet are GREAT examples of how whip doesn’t seem as bad as the word itself & as it can sometimes look side on. Don’t really like lots of whip use. But it appears more like a soft tap, to keep the horse mind on job & encourage. (Could of just been those episodes).
  13. Can’t help myself have to jump in again here. Not me, not anti Maori. Was trying to explain how there already are LOTS of Maori names in North, some peeps may not be aware. Its VERY NORMAL. Never really thought about it much prior. Eg Don’t go round thinking, (Oh I'm going to Waikehe Island for a vino - Oh that is a Maori name). I mean seriously who does. However Im currently against the name NZ to be changed, even if it was to another English name. I like name New Zealand. Funny story, some friends of friends American tourists come to NZ & were being driven around by friend. They were excited & having fun trying to pronounce ALL the Maori names. (As above Iv pointed out there are MANY in North). They then pronounced this TA KE A W A - when they went past a fish & chip shop. Friend laughed says no that says TAKEAWAY”.
  14. When jumped on a hour or so ago quickly, couldn’t help but noticed this. A fight starting oh dear. So thought Id add following quickly. Not sure about names for South Island, but these are familiar names of towns or cities in North. So you see we are already amongst many Maori names. These town/cities names are normal to me. Its all Iv ever known. However the Aotearoa is understandably going 1 step too far in my view (as we couldn't even change Flag) New Zealand is New Zealand & its Maori equivalent is Aotearoa BUT it shouldn't be replaced with the later. Don't know what they are thinking. Bloke FYI - Honest J is a member of Nat Party so he maybe staunch in his views re politics. Right see you peeps. Thursday-Fri get involve in the Harness comp. Come join Bloke you are welcome 😄 1. 15. Just saw this on mainstream news, so thought would quickly pop n post links. So yip Happy - how right you are. Shame BUT at least at this stage it will STILL go AHEAD. https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/sport/2021/10/horse-racing-christchurch-s-addington-cup-week-behind-closed-doors-for-first-time-in-117-years.html https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/126719316/addington-cup-week-to-be-held-behind-closed-doors-for-the-first-time
  16. Finished this already so might as well drop it now. As mentioned last week will take a look at Miki. 1. G Rogerson points out a yearling called Luka Doncic is 1 to watch out for. Luka Doncic an Always B Miki has caught his eye & will be aimed at next years Jewels as a 2 y-o. (If Jewels is still on). Mikis NZ stats e.g. 5 winners from 11 starters, eldest racing age 2 y-o in NZ. And those winners like Sweet Lou, are clearing maiden quickly. Your So Fine has grabbed Group 2 glory, Your So Fine has been exported to Oz. Montana Glory filly placed 2nd in G1 Jewels has been exported to Aus but it yet to be sighted there. Leaving Franco Indie to bear the Miki flag in NZ to potentially grab the 1st G1 in NZ for the up & coming sire. In terms of breeding numbers Miki served his biggest book 2021 with 201. Compared with only 98 in 2018. Based on numbers when his class of 2021 hit the ground, might be a case of WATCH OUT. 2. All Stars here’s a link to their new look new domain website. http://www.allstarsracing.co.nz 3. A link to latest All mic-ed up episode 4. D Ferg & the horse they call Princess, Cambridge Horse of the Year - She Reigns. https://www.facebook.com/trackchatnz/videos/250038193724453/ 4. As per last weeks edition A Harrison made her training debut, but it was her driving that nite that stood out - taking out TAB drivers challenge. Re Jnrs - GIRLS have jumped ahead of Boys. Albeit this transit season doesn’t count & Morrison is now an Open driver. BUT IF continuing the count on from last season including this transit season til 31 Dec. A Harrison has bypassed L Whittaker in Northern Jnr Ranks wins And S O’Reily too winning more than Morrison. Unfortunately for S O’Reily the Inter-island Australasian Champs have been cancelled. How adorable & bubbling smiley is Northern Jnr C Hackett & has started her career in fine form. 5. As per NZ standardbred website their yearling sales calendar is set to be released next month. Breckon Farms already released their draft heres link to it. https://www.breckonfarms.co.nz/yearling-draft-2022 6. Drivers it was noted that Dunn is driving well. Winning 4 at Addington Fri then driving more winners at Oamaru. 7. Overseas Winners Spellbound wins G3 & is off to chase elusive G1 glory. 8. Aussie Exports - Jewels winners A Bettor You & Bettor Twist both been exported to Oz. Look out for them up & coming Oz. Another with Oz bound plans is Stylish Memphis after being withdrawn from NZ Cup. 9. Withdrawals from Cup now include U May Cullect, who is retired. BUT the Road to Cup continues with this week the Holmes DG draws 9 noms including Copy That, Bad to B, Belle of M. While in South, The Flying Stakes at Ashburton Sun, includes a nom from KRUG, Pembroke Playboy, Taipo, Self Assured, SCA, Laver. 10. Mentioned from last week was Gavelhouse sale Lot 2 Major Majority ended up selling for $600 & dam Lot 9 Heart Stealer Passed in. Mentioned it as come from GREAT family in Twice As Good, but seemingly a branch that no-one’s interested. Of note another that comes from the great Twice as Good family tree too, but different branch is Allamericanlover who cleaned up her rivals at Addington. 11. Darling Me - Taking a look at her past 3 starts. Fresh Up had a sit & ran past Miracle Mile starter Stylish M to win. Next 2 starts mid race moved to parked & faded to 3rd or 4th. Know how I’d be driving her next IF I was driver. She’s nom-ed for Ashburton. So lets see the tactics adopted. Her 1/2 sis by Captain T - Remember Me is nom-ed Thurs Addington be an interesting watch if she is as good as her siblings in Sweet on Me & Darling Me. 12. Poster Mikes generosity continues with BIG 2v2 coming up as part of $100 selections comp. Friendly sledging has started. Karmax Vs Mikble R. Stay tuned on Harness competitions thread to catch the action. (TFS Transport kindly sponsoring our 1st comp). What a flyer Richie has made. How good is TFS Transport teaming up with Cambridge to provide FREE return Transport for South horses to race at Cambridge! Great move Cambridge, bright young team they have there. 13. As mentioned last week Sweet Lou Smaltese set up a scorching Australasian 2y-o record mile of 1.50.4, only to be run down by My Ultimate Ronnie, who had came off his back to nab him. Both qualify for Breeders Final. See ya back Thurs for Round 2 of Comp 😃
  17. Thanks for the latest update re MM. Signing out for weekend. Will be back midweek for latest edition of Karrots Midweek Round Up 😃
  18. Well yesterday there was 1 place that was making EVERYONE sign in. So its varying.
  19. Me too re studied a foreign language at high school & used it when living overseas. Great info there Bloke re land gifted re Primary & Secondary Schools etc. Did not know ALL that 👍 Very kind of them at that time of gifting.
  20. Here is a write up on HRNZ about Spellbounds win. Also mentions Smaltese the 2y-o Sweet Lou fella, that I had mentioned on Karrots Midweekly Roundup. He set up an Australasian 2y-o record of 1.50.4 while leading after his BIG fast trial run. Only to be nabbed by My Ultimate Ronnie. Gee hard to find a TOP LOU for Karrots when you run that FAST yet still get BEAT! Both qualify for Breeders final. While Spellbounds will head to a G1 at Melton in a couple of weeks. https://www.hrnz.co.nz/news/spellbound-sparkles-first-up/
  21. Here's an article from Lincoln Farms site. Say Copy T will stay in Auks for next Fridays Holmes DG. Based on it looks like he is going to miss the Ashburton Flying Stakes a few days later Monday. To instead race in the Kaikoura Cup based on the fact that it will be held this year at Addington, not Kaikoura. Think that is final day of our selections comp too. So Kaikoura Cup looks to the the 1st race where North meet South. So be could be an interesting watch. (Article also stated at time of print that he would go for a lite run around at workouts meaning this weekend, but didn't see his name down). https://www.lincolnfarms.co.nz/stories/copy-that-clinical-and-well-see-him-again-at-auckland-before-he-goes-south-for-the-cup/ If I had to do a rank your Top 5 right now be: 1st - Self Assured 2nd= Copy That & South Coast Arden 4rd Bad to the Bone 5th Pembroke Playboy
  22. Spellbound won last nite. Big win too. Launched a mid race 3 wide move with approx a lap to go & stayed 3 wide without cover pretty much all the way til the winning post 👍 Congrats to the connections 🍾
  23. Thought would start a thread, which we can add to each week/weekend of Kiwi horses racing overseas e.g. in Aus or USA or where ever. That yourself or others might have an interest in seeing how they get on. Must have a Kiwi connection. Ill kick it off. Tonight racing at Ballarat Aus NZ time 11.05 is Spellbound. Group 3. Believe this horse is still owned by NZ conn👀ections. Go Spellbound! Ps feel free to add to list. No need to stay on mute. Believe Copy Thats connections are talking about heading over to Aus to race early next year.
