  1. Read the last sentence below in Stripes report. Got me thinking about horses & their personalities, how much does it effect their racing, happiness & so on? On top of fact, watched a horse yesterday had been keeping eye on & it ran a great race compared to recent performances. Trying to figure out why, but this horse seemed to love to lead. And hasnโ€™t for a while. So was personality a factor in it trying so hard? How much does personality come into things? Stripes report below stated that Courage of M lost interest. Lol lost interest. Also remember chatting with some peeps from Stonewall & they said that BD Joe was a lil toad when young. The naughtiest on the track. Like Sugar Me, read Dalgety saying S. Me, was naughty too as a youngster. Not interested in being a race horse. Both slightly older have turned out to be nice horses. Coincidence perhaps. But personalities. Karrots young horse same naughty lil fart on track but VERY friendly AS, the second off track. Like sweetie - turns naughty - back to sweetie - turns naughty. Its very funny. Not funny for the driver tho on track lol. Thought perhaps this thread could be on any stories of horses you might/may be connected with or know of and about their personality. Might get some good - fun stories here. Mr Neal further stated that COURAGE OF MONTANA had then dropped the bit and lost interest after the incident near the 1350m and as a result he had not been persevered with.
  2. Peeps will @Mike gotta give them time ๐Ÿ˜„ They usually start rolling in day of in my experience. Selections are a bit hard tonight as its such a small card compared to usual. May the best selections poster win the challenge tonight.
  3. Yip other thread peeps over on the standardbred - competitions. Not sure which thread to do the running commentary on it as results roll in. Guess the other thread too ... @Hesi ?
  4. OMG tots remember that post you made on the Manawatu thread. Was very funny. Galahs intensive study with curtains pulled Hehe, yeah he's the best. I need him to give me the laugh(like) emoji as he seemed to get my sense of humour. Was the only 1 really lol. Well as we were following Harrison last nite & Lightening hasn't done a final update, he's being all modest. Results Harrison Queen of Cambridge last nite. The young female Northern Jnr took out the actual TAB Drivers Challenge with 3 Wins - a 2nd & her training debut finished 4th. Lightening finished of with 5 WINS total for the nite & 2 2nds. How about that for a warm up for our comp starting tonight. Missed replying to this. Well us in the North are def in with a chance. With SCA, Copy T, Bad to the Bone, I like ALL 3 of those for win chances with right run.
  5. Yes started to get tired 1/2 way down the back by the looks, plugs out then too. But fresh up 1st run so can only improve & 4th is better than 'also ran'. And true to form yes a Lou wins swiftly in just his 2nd start. How good was She Reigns from the 50 metres over 2200. Another win for you Lightening. Gee your on fire tonight with your Hot selections. R1 win R2 win R3 2nd R4 miss R5 win!! You can telly up your final result I need to make my selections, struggling with it.
  6. Oh you are here too Enteebee. Very good ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
  7. Harrison continues on her merry winning way, with a 2nd in the 2nd & another win in the 3rd! @Lightning Blue you Race 1 win, Race 2 win, Race 3 2nd. Needed to be on Harrison for 3rd ๐Ÿ˜‰ What is up with the kamikazi driving for lead for 800 odd metres race 3 & also a fair way in race 2. These drivers didnโ€™t get the memo. Kamikazi driving 9 times out of 10 ends badly. But young Harrison got the memo coming over the top of them from the back. Next up debut runner in Shirley Bassey.
  8. Ok. Yes & I was also very disappointed when he posted Mikes full name on a thread to fully identify him. Felt that crossed a line & openly said so on too. What poster Ranga will do next is read this, then go & do the exact same thing I have done with the writing something similar to what I have done. Of course if he just googled his ballet ticket in Malaysia pix & posted it then he wonโ€™t be able to. That is the behaviour that Iv had to tolerate. And as I said Im here, not even there anymore. Ranga also put up a pic of colours of owners. Owners that are dear to a poster Hunter the Punters heart. Just to mock Hunter. Chief didn't obviously press him hard to remove them. And when recently confronted openly by Hunter about it, said that he was unable to go into someones profile & edit. Umm you have an email, why not tell the person to remove them full stop & no posting until you do. Galah & Davis are probably the best regular posters left, bar the ones that are now posting here. Brodie is alright too, just gets so repetitive. Anyway moving on. And no wonโ€™t. Most of the time now, they donโ€™t seem that interested in talking about the racing. Whoop, whoop, @Lightning Blue a win race 1 with Harrison onboard. Commentator mentioned that he spoke to her when she was down South recently & she gives her trained debut runner a chance. Starting 2nd fav, altho the field is not bad, so surprised me a lil. Not paying enough place money to have a small fun punt on. Haha yes starting to get @Mike self admitted problem with lack of self control lol. Firing up lol. But as said, for me best not to look & read. Then no chance of firing up ๐Ÿ˜„
  9. Yes because I just went to take a look at other site, on the off chance that I MIGHT post on both. BUT no. NO CHANCE. Ranga clearly reading here & Ludwig. Both obsessed with Karrots for some bizarre reason even tho I left approx a week ago. And talking crap about me. And Ranga went and mocked as per usual for him, the ticket post that I put up. By putting up on a thread dedicated to me lol. Pix of ballet. So lame & without a doubt typical behaviour from them. Am a bit disappointed Chief for some reason is playing along too. Like saying prove it via video. So here proved. A bit more personalised. Now not going to Check that site again! Yes hopefully Lightening that Harrison does well tonight. Nice selections even a Lou in the Last ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜ƒ
  10. Oh & lastly. Sooooo good not having to worry about the troll poster that is allegedly one of the most disliked, if not the most disliked person in Harness racing. Poster Ranga. Not a nice poster either. So I would believe this rumour based off that. Thanks for the tip @Honest john& Hunter the Punter. Hope you doing well Hunter if you ever read this! Still awaiting odds out, maybe at 4pm. The main trot fixed odds are out now tho.
  11. Agree re race OVER IF either Self Assured or South Coast Arden get to lead. Yes have to park them, as the will at some stage in race if they have not made lead early, will mid race move to seek the parked spot. Now if they come around together. That would put 1 of them in the 1/1 which that horse would one would think be a BIG threat. If they are still too good and win from parked & 1/1 then so be it. But at least make a race of it. Donโ€™t let the race be over within the 1st 400 metres! Preference would be donโ€™t let a horse e.g. Dance Time lead. Need a horse that over that distance can get the โ€œOTHERSโ€ on rail line to passing lane. Certain ones might putt out & stuff it for rail line then again same result. Wonder if there is a way to get a horse good at stand start manners. Like a trick. Here is an example of a animal trick used as a lil girl for pet day. Used to always win the Leading hehe. But not the CALLING. Pet lamb has to come to you when called. 1st year terrible & pet lamb ran away out of ring. Sadden & nearly in tears, young Karrots asks winner. โ€œHow did you do thisโ€? Why your lamb come running up to you? Answer โ€œat feed time, hold bottle behind back & stand away from lamb, call lamb & lamb will come running - then feed lamb with bottle from behind back. Do same thing in ring come pet day - lamb will think bottle is behind your backโ€. โ€œGot itโ€. Karrots says. โ€œThanksโ€! Next year, after finishing 1st in leading. Pet lamb & Karrots enter ring for calling comp. A nervous Karrots places hands behind back, as an attendant holds pet lamb back. A few seconds later attendant lets go. Karrots starts to call โ€œKate, Kate, here Kateโ€. Kate comes dashing over. It worked! Winner & overall champ ribbons for Africa! Moral of story, reckon there has to be some sort of trick to get better stand start manners, not sure what it is tho. No Pet(e) Lamb this year as starter.
  12. Look what I just found @Lightning Blue ๐Ÿ˜„ Doing a clean up. Reminded me of our fun banter during Tokyo Olympics & when I told you about how I went to Rio Olympics. And told the story how went & watched L Ko. Ill give short story here, 1 of the days I went there was so few Kiwi supporters approx 8 ish of us as they had gone to watch the water sports & a sea of South Korean supporters 50 ish that was her main rival. With the silver fern flag went racing ahead a few holes & put flag right behind a hole on fence so she could see there were Kiwi supporters there. Her sister after the match came & thanked me for coming & supporting. Very nice she was too the sister - took pix etc. Noted which I mentioned that Ko worn on the last day a Silver Fern cap. Maybe a shout out to Karrots, thinking back to Rio ... hehe. Anyway there were some non-believers on the other site. Even got name called a c..t from a poster, good old Bill $. For sharing stories that quite frankly were true. Doesn't understand a normal fact of life that peeps lead different lifestyles no matter how to them, non-realistic it may seem. Pix of my tickets I saved as souvenirs. Will head back to post later today once odds are out with selections for comp.
  13. Confirmation is up on HRNZ today. A corn unfortunately. There goes your selection @Honest john dunk. Was a nice roughly selection. On another note, be interesting to see if Auckland drivers are able to get down for Cup or Not ... ? https://www.hrnz.co.nz/news/exit-stage-left-di-caprio/
  14. Whats this thread on Netflix hmm. Just ask Karrots - currently the Netflix watching machine. Going into week 9 or 10 or whatever it is of lockdown now. Currently watching El Dragon, which is The Dragon in Spanish. About drugs & cartel, money laundering, subtitles, you name it, it has it including a bunch of HOTTIES too ๐Ÿ˜„
  15. https://www.hrnz.co.nz/news/cambridge-raceway-launch-inter-island-travel-subsidy/ TFS Transport get involved with another incentive. Check out the Cambridge Raceway in operation with TFS Transport on bringing up South Island based horses to race over summer at Cambridge!! ๐Ÿ˜€ What a fantastic magic idea! Great ideas to get numbers up in North & typical that the great idea has come from Cambridge raceway #ontoit with marketing & ideas! Gee @Mike you will be a very busy man over summer. You & Tony! Well done!
  16. Selections can go here, or over on the other thread, under selections competions standardbred. Either or. Perhaps tomorrow nite, Mike we run the running commentary on this thread here. Who will be the winner - Im amped & getting ready warming up ๐Ÿ˜‰
  17. Yes, he is excellent to have banter with. Feeling much happier over here ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Dont have to worry about being trolled by multiple posters, nor being name called - Iv been called all the names under the sun lol. Nor putting up with trolls dumping on my threads, nor have to worry about repetitive talk about non related to horses or racing & what is GREAT is that these threads on standardbred side are mostly if not all talk on standardbred racing & NOT babbling on talk about things quite frankly I have no interest in and posters actually post on those other non-related posts on threads that are up on site e.g. under Other ๐Ÿ‘ What a breath of fresh air. Lastly forgot to mention Taupiri. Earth calling Taupiri come in Taupiri. Last I knew he left other site approx 2-3 weeks ago. No idea if he will return online. If you do & by chance you randomly see this thread & post. Come join in over here. Taupiri is neat. He is quiet, but has good input when he does channel in . He loves watching the sport & his fav is 1 of those Oz blondies can't remember name a host, he nom-ed for a Hot list I ran lol.
  18. Yes they are re Lous. He still needs a star. Altho his biggest crop will be hitting the track next year as 2y-os. Starting to wonder if his horses are more shorter distance race horses e.g. mile or 1980 horse. They have that top high speed but don't seem to be as good over distance. He has multiple stars in USA & high stats & yearling sale prices. Yet in NZ just 1 star so far in Sweet on Me ... ? Is it because it is too early yet, his eldest are still only 4y-o. 1 thing have noticed is that there have been multiple Cambridge horses that have gone over & held their own over the mile at Menangle. These include Bankers Gold 2nd Group 3 Mengangle, Viva Las Vegas 2nd Group 3 Menangle, Shanlou, super record at Menangle so far & was unfortunate to be delegated from a win to 2nd for interference in straight. Then there was Southern horse Renegade Rose & Mighty Looee. Also take Im a Giogolo, won 1st 3 starts to be 3 from 3 at Addington over 1980, but then went up to Alex over 2200 & failed. (Of course he was up in grade by this time). But a common denominator I notice re distance. As mentioned in 1st post 2y-o Smaltese won his trial in 1.50.2 over mile which apparently had it been an official race would of been an Australian record for 2y-os. They have that high speed but don't seem to have the stamina over longer distance. Take a look also at Sugar Me, great over the 1980 metres. (Didn't deliver recently in Derby heat & followup. Of course was always against him when he got bad 2nd row draws x2). Will see if there are any Always B Mikis to mention for next weeks addition of Karrots Midweek RoundUp ๐Ÿ˜„
  19. Great Happy. Be a good lead up race this weekend with runners starting off different metre points. And the favs giving the others a start. Read on another thread that Oscar B is out of Dominion. Do I have this right in Globe is part of the Majestic Man syndicate ... ? He was 1 of my favs I followed ๐Ÿ˜„ Yay he got his Group 1 win, multiple too! 4 weeks to go & altho Sundees Son is the BEST horse nom-ed, this is racing after all. Have to be in it to win it & as we saw with the recent Victoria Cup anything can happen. And the favs can get beaten. Its not over til the winner goes past the post in 1st place! Ill be waiting til closer to time before selecting my pick.
  20. Check these out these facts & stats. A look into the past 5 Cups 2016 Tiger Tara is 1st to get out. Driver G Oโ€™Reilly reins the horse along to try to hold the lead. But Smolda, T Williams keeps challenging until hits lead once around 1st Cnr. Within 1/2 a lap later has handed to stablemate Lazarus M Purdon. Race over. Lazarus wins. All Stars are lead, trail. Leader wins race. 2017 Piccadilly Princess J Cox along with stablemate Lazarus are 1st out. Lazarus has too much speed for PP. Lazarus heads straight on by. Lazarus wins. All Stars are again lead, trail. Leader wins race. 2018 Star Galleria A Herlihy, is out 1st. Followed by The Fixer N Rasmussen. Soon after The Fixer is reined up to peel from trial to take lead from Star G. Soon after that stablemate Dream About Me, T Williams heads onto lead. The Fixer wins. All Stars are yet AGAIN lead, trail. Trial horse wins. 2019 Classie Brigade R Dunn & The Fixer N Rasmussen out 1st together. Classic Brigade has early lead but Cruz Bromac, B Orange who is also out well comes looking for lead. Classie B hands up to Cruz Bromac. Soon after the horse 3 back on rail The Fixer is pulled out & goes up to take lead off stablemate Cruz Bromac. Soon after Spankem M Purdon moves up to take lead off stablemate. This time 3 All Star stablemates are not only lead, trial but also, 3 back. Cruz Bromac wins. 3 back fence wins. 2020 Outside runners get an advantage at highly disputed start. 1st out are stablemates Ashley Locaz T Williams & Self Assured M Purdon who take up lead & trial. Self Assured pulls out of trial to take lead off stablemate A Locaz. Stablemate Spankem, N Rasmussen who drew 15 is 4th last early of the 15 horse field. With stablemate Self Assured in lead & stablemate Ashley Locaz in trial, Spankem is set alight around field to take the lead. All Stars are AGAIN lead, trial, 3 back. Self Assured wins. Trial horse wins. Karrots had only seen NZ Cup since 2018. Took a peak last nite at these replays. How exacerbating! 2021 While no official stablemates - Self Assured & South Coast Arden are currently stabled together & will be driven by M Purdon & N Ras respectively & both have All Star owners. These are currently the 2 favourites. My suggestion would be for any of โ€œOTHERSโ€ IF you want a chance to WIN & are not just there to collect the $15k starters fee. DO NOT HAND UP LEAD to either of these 2 horses. Fine to hand up to another โ€œOTHERโ€ horse, that is capable of holding lead & also wonโ€™t hand up again. Also beware of any runners that have stablemates in race. BUT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE HAND UP TO SELF ASSURE or SOUTH COAST ARDEN. And for goodness sake, get your horse out quick at the start (easier said than done yes I know lol) Haha Lightening loves stable driving, Karrots doesnโ€™t so maybe we play game, Lightening on โ€œTeam Stable Drivingโ€ & Karrots on โ€œOthers Teamโ€. We have fun friendly banter with it peeps. Makes it more entertaining. All 5 winners have come from the positions of lead, trail or 3 back fence. Said it before, Ill be on the horse in trail. Still have to figure out whom that maybe lol. If I could get a 2nd selection Ill take 2nd selection as horse in lead hehe. Over the past 7 Cups, 6 have been from All Stars stable, same owners, drivers & trainers. Therefore for that reason & that reason alone, Id like to see different owners/trainers/driver win. GO TEAM OTHERS - LETS TRY TO MAKE 2021 NZ CUP A RACE!!!!!
  21. Had an idea when time permits to post a weekly midweek round up on harness things that caught my eye. (So will do so on this thread). Since midweek is usually a quiet time. Will head back Thursday to post & add to other threads ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ‘ http://www.harness.org.au/racing/fields/race-fields/?mc=ME021021 1. Karrots has found herself a new Sweet Lou to follow after this spectacular trail win. Will he be the Lou pin-up boy that is needed in Australasia? After pin up girl Sweet on Me retired at 2y-o. Smaltese a 2yo boy nearly broke 1.50 in a trial at Menangle running a blazing MR1.50.2! That is FFA styles. Link attached for those wanting to checkout. Since this trial he has won a NSW Breeders Heat 2y-o boys 2. Sweet Lou in USA yearlings sales was the 2nd top average sire at over $90k. High of $400k for a filly. Will that do anything for his NZ stock at the Feb 2022 sales NZ ... ? 3. Top Northern Jnr Driver A Harrison is set to make her training debut Thurs at Cambridge with Shirley Bassey, in whom she purchased the 3 y-o filly at the yearling sales. Shirley Bassey ran a nice workout on Sat at Cambridge winning by a lengthy margin of 15 lengths. The filly has drawn 1 for her debut. Poster Karrots has already told Poster Harrison previously will be watching & keeping eye on. Spoted ya. So good luck Thursday! Will be rooting ya on. 4. Triple Eights connects have advised that they most likely will not be sending him to the NZ Cup, however he is still to be officially withdrawn. 5. The horse pictured in the red & white colours, clearly starting ahead of the front unruly horses BUT was meant to start off the 10 metre mark. This was a Group 3 feature race on Sunday, The Methven Cup & a Road to the Cup race where horses are still vying for spots. The horse Vintage Cheddar finishes 3rd. Nothing mentioned in stripes report about the fact the horse did NOT start 10 metres back. But more or less from the 2nd row of the front line. No 10 metre tape was put up either. No warning nor fine either for the driver B Williamson or the starter. 6. Following reading an article on HRNZ on a horse called Tornado Banner took a peak at her breeding & she is from the family tree of the GREAT - Twice As Good. No wonder she put up a good 1st up performance and a soon win looks imminent. What I also noted on Gavel House currently up for sale is an unreserved broodmare in Heart Stealer Lot 9 & her daughter Lot 2 Major Majority also unreserved. Also from the same family tree of the GREAT Twice As Good BUT different branch. Currently no bids, with sale closing tomorrow. Major Majority sales write up states that her broodmare none other than Lot 9 Heart Stealer was purchased or 100k. And unfortunately MM had to be re-listed this week, due to buyer S Ramsay pulling out at a price of $800 in last Gavel sale. What I find fascinating is how the lack of interest in both. Big depreciation of value too from a $100k purchase. Thats racing tho I suppose. A reminder that this Friday our selections comp starts here is a link to our generous sponsor of the comp. Big Ups to them. Selections will start being posted Thurs once fixed odds are out. Ill be putting my up then. https://www.tfshorsetransport.co.nz
  22. Ludwig, wow really, talk about putting the boot in lol trying to get rid of me & my friends. Oh well you, me, Mike & psst think Gamms is here too now, but undercover not 100% but just a hunch ๐Ÿ˜‰ Just like The FANTASTIC FOUR ๐Ÿ˜‰ see that is undercover Gamms in clay outfit, then you, me & Mike ๐Ÿ˜ There is sports area & a comp area. Still navigating myself thru site. But Ill mainly just be on this Harness side & over the weekend Thurs/Fri-Sun. That is when racing is on mainly anyway & not so much goes on midweek Harness NZ. You might like other areas tho e.g. Gallops side etc. Seems a bit more busier. Good to have here now ๐Ÿ˜€ To put some humour into site with your Honesty! lol Well peeps will be signing out now. Back next week Thursday & will be ready to Rock & Roll on with Mikes Competition ๐Ÿ‘ Might even start a thread too called - NZ CUP ROAD TO CUP ๐Ÿ™ˆ
  23. See out of the corner of my eye a new member signed up ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Honest John yay. Welcome. Hello, Honest J, so pleased you figured it out! Sorry bout that. Leaving & all so quickly. @Honest john Btw we have a fun comp next weekend, that you can join in now you are a member, that Poster M - @Mike has organised. Sponsored by T Shaw Transport. Its a horse transport company in North Island. So peeps if you need a horse transported they are your folks to give a call. Think you might run into Mike himself too. If anyone else that used to enjoy the comps I used to do on other site & would like to come, join in on this one feel free. It is for next weekend $100 up for grabs! BUT you have to be a member here to play obviously. Trying to think of some that used to enjoy playing selection games. Jakh, Trotsfan, Unhinged. Exciting stuff finally playing for something real. Who will be the WINNER ?? !! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
  24. Final results time, winner Rusty! Lightening verse Mike no multis came in. Karrots only Viva Las Vegas come in grabbing a 2nd place in Group 3 Menangle Country Cup. Now have to say this but golly. Know Butt is an amazing driver, but what the help on Amazing Dream. Get their tactic strategy was to run them, but a bit TOO muchie, muchie. Those poor little legs. Ended up running the legs off her. She would of slept well last nite! What a size difference in them when King of Swing came up next to her. She looked rather small and like a mare in comparison. What a big strong horse he is and looks. Nice to see someone else tho take home the winners prize for a change in Max Delight taking the chocs. Congrats to connections. The Dealers race, nice horse this Act Now the winner crossed them at start for fun. Again not sure why Butt decided to punch up at start to try & holdout the horse looking to go parked. Rather than just relaxing & taking cover. Weird. Anyway perhaps for him just an off nite, we ALL have them. Even us with our selections as above. Hopefully we have much better luck next weekend with our SELECTIONS GAME & a $100 up for grabs ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
