Lightning Blue
Well the Matilda's made it anyway . A very long 'Everyone gets a Go' Penalty shoot-out with France has somehow seen the Matilda's finish One Penalty ahead of France. one poor French girl had to re-take her missed shot and was saved for a 2nd time. probably made the all the difference in the tension. What great excitement for this part of the world , not really known for it's Soccer Football. (The Brisbane Lions were Winning across town at the Gabba in the real Aussie football at the same time) Broncos also won there on Thursday for a 'Heather and Double R Robert-like Clean sweep !!! ' what a great weekend.
Maximus
Tremendous penalty shootout, couldnt believe the number of shots that were saved or went wide. Well done, Australia ...showing some bottle at the business end (unlike NZ)..but it's only football after all. The real World Cups are coming up ...Rugby Union and ODI Cricket. Cant wait. C,mon Max the Rugby Union World Cup hardly rates a mention against its men's Football equivalent, and give credit where credit is due to the women. Football not your thing?, you rather watch meatheads running round a cow patch holding an easter egg.
Globederby19
I just watched a video cam of the whole penalty shootout and that stadium was jam packed to the rafters and erupted at the end. No interest in women's football, I doubt it, even allowing for Aussie fanaticism with their sport. The guy on the end of the camcorder was a white Aussie male and he went ballistic. Great to see our cousins create a bit of history.

Hesi
The big difference being, from NZ's perspective, is that we are regarded as the world power in rugby, so it will always have huge NZ spectator buy in. We will never be such in football, currently 103 men, 26 women, with many third world countries ahead of us.
Our Maizcay
yep i get that, but doesn't make the football world cup(s) less "real" because NZ is rubbish at it
Lightning Blue
Good points lads.... Still great to support the smaller World Cup's too. And Nz and Australia aren't rubbish at them either... . Rugby still popular in a lot of places around the world . Nz has some big business coming up in host France soon to knock off the South Africans and regain the Title. bring it on !! And as for the Cricket, Australias National sport, but NZ have been runner up at the last 2 editions of the World Cup, and I'll cheer like mad for them to make up for the injustice of the last World Cup when scores were TIED twice at the 'Home of Cricket' at Lord's . (at end of match and Super Over) Surely a Dead Heat ???? when scores are the same 🤔 Boundary Countback? some dipstick decided to count the Boundaries and declare a Winner . Scores were tied , how the hell does How the runs were scored make any difference ? Just have a second Super Over each would of been Best you would think ? or share the Title ... Redemption in India fingers crossed . Lord's, London England241 all out (50 overs)15/0 (super over)24 fours, 2 sixes New Zealand241/8 (50 overs)15/1 (super over)14 fours, 3 sixes Match TiedBoundary countback after super over
ngakonui grass
Once France win a RWC,that will mean all the teams capable of winning a world cup have won it.

Has Been 9 Rugby World Cups so far with 4 different winners. so that's pretty good really. (Nz 3, SA 3, Aus 2, England 1 ) The Football World Cup has been going 3 times longer (nearly 100 years) and only 8 different nations have won the Football world Cup from 100 odd nations that must of competed. Very few with a chance there either . (As proven over time) good news is The Ladies have 4 Semi-Finalists in this current FIFA women's World Cup that have never Won before !! So will be a brand new winning Nation ( out of Aus, England, Sweden or Spain ) ...... good riddance to the USA diva's

Not Max. Rugby needs to change the game so that the ball is in play more often. Easily done; just stop the clock when the ref blows the whistle! And start again when the ball is back in play (scrum feed, lineout throw, kick whatever). But yes, you're right football aint my thang...prefer cricket, rugby and basketball. Mercifully, he and his cronies will be departing for the oppo benches before the year is out. Their latest desperate tactic re GST is proof that they will do anything to stay in power. If it's such a good thing, why wasn't GST removed on fruit/veg 18-24 months ago when the COL crisis was obvious amid roaring inflation and the country on its knees with Covid? You could see Robertson almost cringing with discomfort during the media conference about it. MM

Lightning Blue
Well England did Make it in the end .... and conquered the Semi-Final over the Aussie Matildas. Is like getting a puncture on your bike , when riding along well . 😅😂 a bit deflating. Anyway the brittish Lionesses are Not 'Bringing IT Home' quite yet .... will they be singing 'It's Coming Home' next week ?
Globederby19
A bit of poor defending by the Matildas at the back, but they gave as good as they got, and Sam Kerrs goal absolutely sublime. The playoff with Sweden for 3rd and 4th will be worth watching.
Hesi
She will not remember that goal, but the one she missed with the net wide open, that would have made it 2-2 and possibly changed the course of the rest of the match
