Greetings all, from 1 Rocky Road, Bedrock. Tis the morning after the drama the day before ...

Never mind, Maxis. Done on the line in the MMP Stakes - Meaningless Minor Premiership, a Listed Race. But we have always been targeting the two Group 1s that start next week!

It says something about the fine format of PJ’s Super Duper Comps that the four teams to make the playoffs, and their qualifying order, was decided only on the result of the last of 140 races. (40 tipsters in 8 teams of 5; each picking 2 horses per race, a total of 140 races over 3 months. From Good tracks to Heavy. From 1000m to 3200m, across summer/autumn conditions in NZ and Aussie. That's a fairly decent test of all things thoroughbred.)

Astonishingly, the winner of that last race was not picked by any member of the teams that ultimately qualified. More astonishingly, the final four teams and their qualifying order was determined by a horse that didn’t even win!

And … you couldn’t dream up this stuff … it was determined by a player who scored $0.00 on the day and had the lowest individual total over the 14 Rounds - the legendary wuffie-picker JEN, who ignored a horse called JEN RULES in the last and took a 50-1 shot instead that ran 2nd to win the tied match for her team and Change the Course of History. (That's why you're playing the Maxis next week, Howie!!)

On behalf of Graeme, Heather, Rob and Georgy Boy, cap’n Max extends a big THANKS to all 20 players in the 4 teams that didn’t make it through. There were no easy-beats in this Comp, you are all formidable, and we Maxis have enjoyed each and every H2H over the last 14 weeks. Strange, isn’t it, that we feel we know each other quite well, but most of us have never met in person - probably just as well, with Mooses and Foxes and Blind Squirrels and Taniwhas charging around the place. Onwards and upwards we go, to the first of the Group 1s next Saturday. Hearty congrats to all players in the play-offs. You've earned it!

I reckon the Much Too Fast-est one, Howie, has started studying the form already. And Five-Oh will need a fair few team conflabs, conferences, conventions and committee meetings this week to construct a convincing consensus to confound and confuse the in-form outlaws The James Gang.
Thanks PJ, for another top job yesterday. We all love your work.

MM

PS: Max is off to raid Mrs W's piggy-bank while she's at Sunday School with the Wee Weasels. Need to have at least one bottle of Moet getting cold in the fridge through the week ... just in case our luck changes next week!

All counts for nothing now that we hit the knockout phase 😊

Thanks Peter for another superb round robin and immaculate scoring and updates as always. Love these comps and especially this time, as this comp has been a huge contributor to my Covid lockdown sanity!

Interesting that the 4 sides to succeed with their Joker plays are the 4 Finalists. Joker is critical to success in these comps
