The New Zealand Cup full of 'bracketed' horses for decades. 

a couple of most famous ones were 'Our Roger' (Doug Watts) bracketed with the mighty atom 'Caduceus'   (the trainer of both Jack Litten driving)  Our Roger Winning the Cup with Caduceus unplaced.

And 'False Step' winning the first of his 3 Cups for Cecil Devine, was bracketed with Cecil's winner from 2 years before 'Thunder" who finished unplaced off 30 yds handicap.
