Jacinda

Vladimir Putin , Donald Trump and Jacinda Adhern all die and wind up in Hell. While there , they spy a red phone and ask what the phone is for. The Devil tells them its for calling back to Earth. So Putin calls Russia and talks for 5 minutes. When he is finished the Devil informs him that the cost is a million dollars , so Putin writes him a cheque. Next, Donald Trump calls the USA and talks for 30 minutes. When he has finished the Devil informs him that the cost is 6 million dollars , so Donald writes him a cheque. Finally Jacinda has her turn and calls NZ for 4 hours . When she has finished the Devil informs her that there would be "no charge" and to feel free to call NZ anytime.

Putin and Trump go ballistic and ask the Devil why Jacinda got to call NZ for free'

The Devil replied " Since Jacinda became Prime Minister of NZ, the country has gone to Hell, so its a local call.

Sad but true......

Totally expected, when I heard on the radio she had a press conference to announce an election date I knew she would be announcing she was stepping down

Regardless of what anyone thinks of her politics and policies, the many personal vilifications, personal threats and gossip mongering about her partner have been a disgrace and a black spot against NZ, that reflect poorly on those making them, not Ardern

Nats have been handed it on a plate, only question is, will they fuck it up

I think NZ needs a change of government, if not just to get the zealots into a less bitter frame of mind lol

Key and all other PMs have suffered the same.Nobody is immune from any of the above you mentioned.

The problem as i see it is that no political party has the answers to fix whats wrong with NZ.

Labour obviously haven't or they would have done it and the Nats haven't as yet got a policy that can fix whats wrong.

Some party has to stand up and make the hard calls that are needed .

No where near to the same extent

And yes you are right about no one having the answers.  The Nats have gone back to yesterday's people in Collins and Muller

The other thing that is going stick in the craw of the Teds of this world, it wont be long, and she will be Dame Jacinda lol

And so she should be, will be looked upon in awe as a great achievement once she lands in NYC for her next role ... either UN humanitarian role or WHO in quasi medico role advising nations on Covid. Perfect CV for either role, our first NZ genuine international Stateperson having earned internation recognition and applause.

All very well deserved and earned.

Living legend

Because she has such a global persona, I would like to think that can be used here in NZ.  Whether the haters like it or not, she is able to open many doors that no one else in NZ can.  I see Biden talking her up big time

Also means she can stay in NZ, which I believe is what she wants

Her high ambition demands will send her overseas, she would be wasted here, sitting on a board as a Director of a power company or bank would be insulting. She is an international leader, our pond too small

Max doesn't believe anything she says, other than the self-evident truths....eg politicians are human. IMO a contributing factor to the decision to resign is her mental/emotional wellbeing. The last three years have been extraordinarily difficult for everyone, and political leaders all over the world have struggled to deal effectively with Covid issues and consequent effects on wider economies.- to wit, Boris. Scomo, Trump, Trudeau ...

JA needs a long break from politics for her own wellbeing as a young mother.

The consequences of Labour's reckless borrowing/QE and mismanagement of the economy are only just starting to be felt. By midwinter, when many thousands of homeowners have to re-fix mortgages at 7%p.a. or more and construction firms start laying off people, the pain will be more palpable. And JA can look the other way and say "not my fault, go talk to the PM"

Agree on the mental health aspect, tough gig the last 4 years.

Interest rates increasing highly predictable 30 months ago. Have little sympathy for those who went nuts over the last 2 years and find they are in huge financial difficulty, it was plainly forecast .. even the incompetent Reserve Bank manager who facilitated it thru inactivity was warning 18 months ago. A life lesson, greed fails in the end

I'm not going to get into the different ideologies of running a country, but I do think a lot of people add up one and one with her communism and who is pulling her strings and get not 2 but 1002 with her.  At the end of the day, she is simply a mother with a partner who likes fishing and a lovely young daughter, who tried to improve the lot of NZ'ers.

I can tell you why she got out, one word NEVE.  She is getting to the age where she would understand what was going on, and no 5 year old should be ever subjected to that sort of vitriol.

Just a note also to all those that are so bitter towards her because of the vaccines and lockdowns, the Nats quite clearly stated they would have done the same.

I note also Three Waters came about as a result of a review initiated by the Nats in 2017.

Time for a better way methinks.  Perhaps the parties should agree that certain topics are allocated 'non political' status.  Areas like law and order, child poverty, transport infrastructure, water infrastructure, climate change

Hesi, you were a huge supporter, are you now disillusioned with lack of policy implementation or what?.

Forget individuals, there has become an American like obsession with that shit, what about the Labour Party do you now not like?.

I haven't really researched it out Barry, because it takes a lot of time to find the data, not opinion pieces.  A lot of it has been beyond their control such as inflation, debt and interest rates, which many countries around the world have suffered with.  I saw some graphs on child poverty, and it is trending the right way.  House price affordability is improving, but once again due to factors as a result of interest rates rising.  Kiwi Build was a non event, but I also saw some data that showed 1 in 11 houses in NZ have been built in NZ since Ardern was PM.  Not her doing but as a result of market forces.  Law and order, a hard one and the Nats will not have the answers with a hard line.  I note they have elevated Collins, good luck to them.

My view on climate change is simple.  I don't know if it is cyclable and not man made, but I am not prepared to take the risk.  If they find out for sure in 100 years that it is man made, then it is too late to do anything.  Perhaps we don't have to be such leaders, so a bit of softening.  Very complex issues there.

At the end of the day Barry, because of the history of mainly Covid, we needed to move on, and that was not going to happen with Ardern in charge.  As I said before too many bitter zealots around
