Interesting day.

Great results for the participants on here with Freda/Barry getting in the winners circle.

Curious a great result with Irish Excuse. And I managed to actually put the aforementioned winner up as a best for value. (so 1 from 11 at 31s)

Additionally, just to wrap things up, here's the summary of the runners I put up on the day.

All runners (greater or equal to my price when posted)

total 59 runners, 4 winners, NZTAB $130 as listed, SP Betfair $209.80

3 quinellas (R1,R5,R11) ($683.30 NZ TAB ) (boxing cost $151)

And

Irish Excuse SP $41.40 (not counted above, even though started at decent value on my prices above).

Thanks for putting those up Mardi.  Interesting exercise, in the absence of any form for 3.5 months for all the runners

Slightly off the discussion topic,  but definitely ' Riccarton' related.....there was a larger than usual number of horses there yesterday, as night be expected with 11 races / full fields.

Not enough tie-up stalls.  Some horses were tied up in the hosing bays, others had to be left on trucks. Obviously, that wasn't an option for those who arrived on public transport I.e  Majestic, and an impossible situation for small trainers without a legion of staff to walk their charges.

A shambles...made worse by the practice of some trainers of ' reserving '  stalls, although they could hardly be blamed.

Complaints were made to the venerable CEO whose response was ' if you don't like it we'll go back to eight races.'

I believe you were there to actually see Donny and Marie and Celine was an afterthought

Anything's possible. The main thing to take away from that though is - if you have the chance, I highly recommend seeing a show if over there - whether it be Donny & Marie or Celine 🙂

Better than I had expected.

I seen Ka, Le Rieve (SP) David Copperfield which I thought was average and some B grade show at Planet Hollywood which was really good, but the Highlight was taking a helicopter and landing in the Grand Canyon and having a champagne breakfast/lunch then flying down the strip from the old Vegas through to new

Anyone who has never been to Vegas should go I will go back again hopefully I catch Celine next time

Vegas won't be everyone's cup of tea. But it's a place I think you have to see first hand to know whether you like it.

The helicopter / Grand Canyon would have been brilliant. Great idea. Did a helicopter / lunch thing down on the Remarkables in Queenstown once. Absolutely brilliant and can make for something you'll never forget.

Fair bit of haze when we were around GC, but was worth a look. Really enjoyed a drive down from San Fran through Yosemite down the Sierra Nevada range to LV. Not sure I'll be getting there anytime soon what with the border issues etc though.

You might have to look for someone else - Celine may have finished her stay.

I was a little nervous going to Vegas as we had our 3 kids with us, but we weren’t out real late at night only to see the shows, and the fountains at the Bellagio, the traffic at night down the strip used to be horrendous

We had 8 days there and I thought it was great

That would’ve been a great drive through Yosemite National Park some great waterfalls I believe, would love to do the Alaska trip, and a train trip through the Rocky’s I’m like you love travel, the difference between you and me is you punt we’ll enough to do these things, I don’t 🤨

But I agree one needs to go to Vegas and experience it for oneself to see if they like it, once you touch down in Vegas and go through the arrival doors there are poker machines in the airport, for the 8 days I was there I never spent any money on gambling zero poker machines or tables

I was tempted to have a sitting at either Caesar’s Palace or the MGM Grand sports betting room, where they have their individual betting booths, that looked rather interesting

But like you say there doesn’t look to be too much travel happening anytime soon

I didn't spend a cent playing poker machines or on the tables. And I agree, the airport is a sight. I flew out of there and waiting at the gate and in the middle of the concourse, pokies all over the place. You know you're in Vegas when you see that.

Visited Vegas July 2017, the helicopter ride down into the Grand Canyon was an experience. In Feb. 2018 the same helicopter company had a fatal crash doing this trip. https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/arizona-breaking/2018/02/11/papillon-grand-canyon-helicopters-involved-3-other-deadly-incidents-20-years/327219002/

In October 2017, the mass shooting occurred. Never bet a cent gambling as I couldn't stand all the smoking, hard enough to walk through the casino on the way out to sight see. We stayed in the Venetian.
