Kauri Kats pull one back with Chaillot or Callsign Mav

Highlanders seize the lead with Dalasan

Turbos go further ahead with Tuvalu

Magpies go further ahead with I Am Superman or Banker's Choice

Swamp Foxes seize the lead with the fave (must pay $3.70+ or Tuvalu/Showmanship complete the Q). Law of Indices or Tuvalu (if not the fave)

Com'on Pete . I'm trying to BOOGIE back to the lead here over Mooseman.

He (Moose) nearly polished me off for good with a Best Bet SUMATRA , (who went very nicely for 2nd) and would be the one to beat in the Thousand Guineas now, I reckon.

Wow you are good Lightning/Colin Fry

Scr: 4,6,8,10

4 Chiefs (4th)

$1939.20

1 Blues (1st)

$813.00

The table-toppers all missed in the last as Tassie landed a nice quinella to streak past Smiler and increase the Chiefs' margin adding a bonus point to that they garnered for an impressive team profit with Gee also labeling the Darley darling. Robert was Man of the Match for the victors while Roland was the Blues' MVP.

Jamison, Richie, Ian & Secret Squirrel on the runner-up but no one found the final winner so the Magpies held on to win. No bonus points were earned in a fairly low-key match. Punter Pete was The Foxes MVP while Ian was a mile clear of everyone as Man of the Match.

The victorious Turbos all missed in the last as Craig ended the day with a ripper BB quinella to post a massive total and was crowned Man of the Match. Blind Squirrel was Manawatu MVP. The Highlanders are consoled with bonus points for a higher aggregate and team profit

2 Kauri Kats (5th)

Only Francesco Guardi could have turned the match around for the Kats in the last and he never yelped so The Ferdies held on and took a bonus point for a team profit with Zac bagging a sweet BB to get them there and denying the Kats one for a higher aggregate. Zac edged PJ for Ferdie MVP honours while Pam was an impressive Match Star.

TABLE after ROUND 2

The Blues defeat today saw them slide down 3 places from the top dog spot, fittingly taken over by their conquerors - The Chiefs who climbed 3 spots to the throne. The Magpies' modest win saw them maintain station in 2nd while the Turbos likewise won to hold 3rd. The Ferdies first win saw them climb 3 places to 5th while despite losing the Highlanders gained a spot to 6th (big thanks to Craig) with their bonus points. Defeats for The Kauri Kats and Swamp Foxes saw them each give up two places as they trail the field. Plenty of Jokers to come and just a 6 point spread across the table.

1st 7 Chiefs $3447.40

2nd 6 Magpies $2070.00

3rd 5 Turbos $3407.20

4th 4 Blues $2782.20

5th 3 Ferdies $2186.60

6th 2 Highlanders $2836.80

7th 1 Kauri Kats $2845.80

8th 1 Swamp Foxes $1770.60

You were magnificent bud - super stuff.

Tough battle and we managed to pop our noses in front at the right time. Big turnaround for poor GAzz who did shock and awe on MAxi last week and got the same from you this week!

Well played Turbos - onwards and upwards!

By the way Craig I feel your Quaddie pain - had two 10% units live at NP - Orla and Brucie - a f&&king nose for 3500. Only a decent collect off No Loitering eases the pain!

A good hammering for me today Craig. Well done.

Two I manage Bee Enchanted (trials tuesday) and Prioress both ramping up for fresh campaigns. Prioress wont race till the tracks improve plenty. Then I have my shares in Bonny Lass who is working as good as ever (fresh up in the sweynesse Stakes at rotorua 16 Oct)  and headed to The Railway and Aquaoir who should appear soon. Karisma should race at NSW next Thursday or Friday - was scratched at Newcastle today due to the 18 draw.  A couple of young ones coming through but not likely to race before Xmas.

Long way to go maestro

$4 Turbos -3rd  With sharp shooters Steve Paul, Zig and Gary all bringing good form from Winter, watch the sparks fly.  The  Blind Squirrel is skip so should raise his game and find a nut, and of course the immortal Ray, who has been around since day one, coming off bad form, but disregard him at your peril.  I'm picking this team to win, in a very hard field to assess

$5 Swamp Foxes 8th - The lethal Maria is back, and that means this team becomes a force to be reckoned with.  Rees had a poor Winter comp, but we have all seen how he can rack up points like Hurricane Higgins on a roll.  Our Maizcay brings good form and a keen eye for a winning horse.  Punter Pete was also just average, but could easily top the aggregates.  GOJ is out, but that gives a chance potentially for a purr to turn into a roar, with a reserve coming off the couch

$7 Ferdies 5th - The problem child.  PJ is well out of form, and we can't make him do any more laps, because it's his comp.  Back in the company of dyed in the wool Taranakians such as Moz and Heather, could well be the catalyst for a reigniting of form.  If it is not, beware a mid comp leadership challenge from Heather, it's in the bag on that one.  Zac rejoins the comp, and has killed it in these comps before, and then the redoubtable Tom, a poor last comp, but he is a bit of an ace this guy

$9 Kauri Kats 7th- High fliers before in these comps, but Jen and Pam have been out of touch, Sharne and Graeme, only just average, and the Moet guzzler, just can't seem to put it together for more than one round.  Put them all together in the melting pot, and they seem to gel(or do they turn into gloop), so could go close to taking this comp out.  And Max doesn't have to worry about turning up for drafts

$10 Highlanders 6th - A team of skilled, hardcore, but mainly out of form selectors in Craig, the Robber, the Irishman, Rex and yours truly, well almost, who should test the mettle of any team.  Rex is the key here, he comes off a high scoring aggregate Winter Comp, and could lift this team to a victory.  Would be a nice boost for him, we'll try and do it for you Rex.

$12 Blues 4th - Led by Captain Pete, and I will stick with the tag of the good the bad and the ugly, after 2 superb $600 plus rounds, killing the aggregates till the last round, but 4 $100 or less rounds.  But, the heart and soul is missing from the team this time, with Blues Bros Howie and Geoff MIA. Replaced by 2 excellent players in the Moose man(can he roar) and the Smiling assassin..  And of course Gordy who will relish the baubles of captaincy being lifted  A big ask to replace the bros, can they do it, maybe, maybe not

$15 Magpies 2nd - Former champs, superbly led by Ian and Stevie, who both have come off good Winter Comps.  Back together, brothers in arms, but money ain't for nothing in this comp, you got to work for it.  Richie comes off a poor Winter Comp, the other Squirrel is not in form, and Jason may need a run or 3 to find form.  This team not the behemoth of old, so I'm picking a changing of the guard, the Magpies maybe left squawking towards the back of the field

$20 Chiefs 1st - Almost everyone is out of form in this team, and Robert will need a run, having been out for a Winter spell, probably working on the tan in some exotic location.  But we all know the credentials of Gee, Jack and the Lightning flash.  Tassie is newish and maybe adjusting to the crash and bash of these comps, from the far flung fields of Boonland
I'm picking these guys to finish last, but they could just as easily finish first

Tis the very evening of the day thereof, and Maxi cant be stuffed waiting til the morrow to talk about ancient history of the day before.

So, here’s the thing.

PJ, well done bro, you hit me with the Smaxstick early on and I never really got in the hunt, (though I still could have sMAXed you back in the last with a BB or BBQ).

Sharne and Wham Bam Pam were our stars for the day in a losing cause. Well done to those two Kats.

Early days, though peeps, so we wouldnt want anyone to get too cocky too early, would we? Early ripe, early rotten as they say in the Labour Party.

Max is off to seek consolation in the fulsome bosom of that outrageous female Mustelid Mrs W (perhaps metaphorically speakin’, but you never know yer luck on a Saturday night when the Spring has broken through).

And tomorrow after church with the Wee Weasels, it’ll be shopping for Moet… we may have lost today but there are preparations required for Monday night, when anyone with a dose of decency in their heart ‘n soul will be celebrating the life of our dear departed Queen.

RIP, Your Majesty. We will not see your like again.
