ROUND 14 - Saturday November 4

Important Note: Upper Hutt is due for 60% rain on Friday and 30% on Saturday so I have included 4 alternative races from Tauranga which you should select for in case Trentham is abandoned at some point. You cannot submit the alternative race selections after 12.25pm closing time. If Trentham is abandoned during the day then the comp races remaining there simply switch to Tauranga matching the same comp race number e.g. Trentham abandoned after Race 4 would see comp races 3,4 & 5 switch to Tauranga (3a, 4a & 5a). Any questions please ask. Gate Pa also has some rain (a lot less) forecast but if we lose the one scheduled race there then we go with 9 comp races for the day. I'm trying to make sure a) we get this setttled on Saturday and b) everyone gets a fair chance. I have also omitted Rosehill for Saturday due to the heavy rain forecast for then.

We start the day with a scamper down the Trentham chute for the R65s then nip up to the BOP for the open sprint - always a challenge on the rain affected Gate Pa surface - before returning to the punter's graveyard for another open sprint. We complete the Trentham card with a tricky R75 mile and then the Feilding Gold Cup which should offer plenty of good prices outside the favourite for those who love to plonk their NZ BB on the last race !

Then we are off to one of Flemington's great racedays of the year, kicking off with the Wakeful for the 3yo filly stayers with a ton of form to work through and then the Coolmore down the straight six with all the 3yo sprint stars you know so well. The VRC Derby follows, again with many winning chances and then a fascinating renewal of the Empire Rose Stakes where 5 mares are currently paying between $5 and $10. This race could prove crucial to not only HTH battles but the finals qualification in general. Then comes the last - a race re-named for the great Damien Oliver - but has had about a dozen previous handles including the Linlithgow, the Emirates Classic, the Yellowglen & The Salinger. 16 starters and a wealth of chances. The perfect race to finish the day and decide which teams will contest the Finals !

The comp has come down to one team - the Magpies - guaranteed a Finals berth (but also hoping to retain the No.1 seeding), two teams - the Kauri Kats and Chiefs -  eliminated but no doubt deviously planning to spoil the fun for the Highlanders and Swamp Foxes respectively.

The day's real action focuses on the 5 teams who will battle it out to tie down the 3 remaining Finals slots. Three into Five doesn't go so there are gonna be disappointment for some crews.  The Ferdies would need to lose (pointless) and the three teams below them to all win - spectacularly in some cases - to be knocked out, but it IS possible. The 'Naki crew face a Triple-Joker wielding Blues outfit desperate to haul back The Turbos or Swamp Foxes in what surely will be a torrid battle. The Blues at best could even finish second but at worst could miss out altogether.

The 3rd-placed Turbos look safe but is that an illusion with the 3 teams below all capable of overhauling them if they get a nil result against the mighty 'Pies (quite possible) ? The Our Maizcay vs Richie HTH looks a spicy one here with less than $60 aggregate difference between them.

The Swamp Foxes, like the Turbos, have expended all their Jokers and now have just a 5-point maximum they can take from their final clash with The Waikato Chiefs who are gradually rolling into form and may be a tougher proposition than the table might suggest. With Joker plays coming from the two sides directly below the Swampies, it might be a nervous day for them and this could be a high-scoring affair with 3 players on each side having scored more than $3000 in aggregates.

Lastly The Kauri Kats will look to spoil the Highlanders' finals aspirations in the day's other match. The Otago boys have a regular Joker which with a maximum return could see them finish as high as 3rd but it is certain that anything less than a win will not be good enough. Against the unpredictable Kats who knows what will transpire ??

The two lowest scorers in the comp (whew Max that was close !), meet HTH in the Chiefs v Swamp Foxes Battle of Morrinsville where Gee will get no easier opportunity to break his duck than taking on Rees. Anyone got some odds on this one ?

Gary, Craig and Rob seek revenge on the same opponents that beat them in Round 7....

Lastly I should point out that the Joker plays are automatic in the final round.

I also remind you that the comp does go on for everyone next week with the Semi-Finals Round on Melbourne Cup Day (Tue Nov 7). All teams will participate as there will be a Presidents Final for the Chiefs, Kauri Kats and the two teams that fail to make the Finals. Captains may pay to remind your team members.

Have fun and good luck everyone !

Remember you must have at least 6 different picks (of 20) for those who post after their opponent

not yet Maxi. have to Deal with Derby Day first (and Ian lol) but in the meanwhile the Chief's will have to do their best to defeat Maria and her Swampies to give the Blues a shot at getting into the Finals.

Can you send Jammo one of your finest bottles ?🍾  so his picks are a Bit wayward on Sat to help me out ?😄
