Have been to Hobart, though.
Won the Tasmanian Senior Mens 400m athletics championship title in 1983 as a visiting athlete from Auckland.
Stayed at the hotel where the casino is.
Nice place, but never went back. 🙂

400m was on the first day . . . and I had nothing to do on the 2nd day.
So they asked me if I'd be the 'pace-maker' for the legendary John Walker when he attempted another sub-4 minute mile.
I was a 100m/200m sort of 400m runner, not a 800m/1500m sort of 400m runner . . . so I politely declined the offer on the basis that I'd more than likely bugger it up and be in the newspaper as the guy who stuffed John Walker's sub-4 minute mile attempt. 😀

Big honour Howie. I was a 10,000m man myself. Met John many times and bought stuff off him when he had the tack shop in Takanini. Lovely chap
