PWJ
The Hurricanes are busy fellas. Two in the Magnificent Seven - Virgil & TC - with the same pair also appearing in the Unfortunate Five while two of their team mates - John and Hesi - star in the Serendipitous Six. Their clash with the Kauri Kats looks like the highlight of the weekend ! Both teams are desperate for points - Will there be a Joker play ??? PWJ
Jungle Edge seeks another stakes win Rising ten-year-old Jungle Edge (Dubawi) is nearer the end of his career than the beginning, but trainer Mick Bell believes the seven-time stakes winner still has more ahead of him as he prepares to step out in Saturday’s Bletchingly Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m). Jungle Edge won the Sir John Monash Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) last start and he is aiming to win the Bletchingly having placed in the race the last two years. "He's been going to the track, but he hasn't been doing a lot and that's been the secret to his longevity," Bell said. "I don't go out to make him run time as he could any time he wants to, but the main thing is to keep him feeling as well as he can. He likes the pool at Cranbourne. He splashes in the water for about five minutes before he'll actually go for a swim. He's a real character and that's why if he gets the chance to go to Living Legends they'll enjoy him as he loves
PWJ
Special Missile to benefit from Qld trip With the end of the season looming, trainers Richard and Michael Freedman are hoping that Special Missile (Smart Missile) can score a first win for the term when he lines up in the Winter Challenge (Listed, 1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday. Special Missile finished second in the Glasshouse Handicap (Listed, 1400m) at the Sunshine Coast last time out and Richard Freedman believes that he has taken benefit from the run. "I think the trip away did him good," he said. "I think he's going about as well as he can for a horse that's had a lot of racing, and he takes a bit of racing to get fit. I think we've finally got him fit now so I think he'll run a good race on Saturday. He had a little wind operation about five months ago so it's just taken him a little while to get back to peak form from that."
PWJ
Saturday test for Travest Travest (Tavistock) will step up in trip when he has his third start of this preparation in Saturday’s TAB Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill. Trainer Greg Hickman is pleased with the three-year-old, who made up good ground when finishing third at Randwick last start after getting too far back over 1300 metres on a testing track. “It won’t be an easy race on Saturday, there is plenty in there that have won a race and done a bit so we will still want to be on our merit,” Hickman said.“He did get a little bit far back (last start) but since that run he has done very well and I will be happy to present him on Saturday. I have kept him on the fresh side and haven’t over worked him.”

pete
Avondale a Heavy 10 last night with rail out 8 metres. Forecast is mainly dry with some brisk SW winds so can probably expect it to dry a little from that reading.
Hesi
Makes a nice change for Avondale, normally if you wanted some rain and bad weather, all you had to do was schedule a meeting at Avondale. Apart from Boxing Day at Ellerslie, those Avondale Cup twilight meetings, were probably the most enjoyable times I have spent on a racecourse. As many have said, including the writer, a shame the 3 Auckland clubs can't get their shyte together and amalgamate at a new facility, probably Karaka, put in world class facilities, and a Strathayr track, so the future of racing in Auckland is secured. The land at inner city tracks, is just too valuable, plus that Counties track is a bog, and the Ellerslie track a week or so ago, they were running times similar to past Ellerslie bog tracks, so the drainage work can hardly be claimed as successful. Anyway, enough digression, good for the Blues, as it it now becomes home advantage for 3 races................and they need it

TooFast
An under-performing Blues sitting quietly on '0' points rate as the longest of shots today against a star-studded Ferdies lineup fresh up off a 10-points joker play victory last Saturday. Quite frankly the Ferdies look unbeatable today. Blues looking to play out this comp as the 'nuisance' value ....looking to strike hard with upset victories at the most inappropriate time for those teams still clutching to championship-winning aspirations. There'll be no better time and place to start that than today against the Ferdies. Personally I've got a mountain to climb today putting my unbeaten run up against the supreme star of the most recent PJ draft comp, the 'Much Too Fast' s 'Zac Attack'. It'll almost certainly take a big score to head off Zac today, so with that in mind I've come up with a few Imperial Air Force "value" selections today to keep me in the hunt. The very best of luck to you, Zac. I've settled on these winter racing luminaries to do the business for me today. Hopefully some of these will put their hooves in the till :- R1) 7x10 R2) 8x10 Best Bet NZ R3) 7x9 R4) 1x4 R5) 8x11 R6) 3x7 R7) 4x7 Best Bet Aus R8) 5x8 R9) 2x7 R10) 10x13 Obvious omen bet today - 10- Maestro Blu ...in Comp R1 Let's see what we can do today "teamies" Geoff, Pete, Gordy & Roland. Let's put the 'Mighty' back in the 'Blues' - show these other outfits that we're still a force to be reckoned with. A 'Blues' win in the racing today over the 'Ferdies' and a 'Blues' win in the rugby tomorrow over the hopel hapless 'Chiefs' .....that would make for a very successful mid-winter weekend. 👍 Let's do it. Enjoy your racing today, everyone. Many thanks, PJ.
