Hesi
I can't recall a more vintage season for the quality of the 3 year olds, and the Derby winner may still probably be yet to emerge Is it a fluke or is it a sign the NZ industry is picking up, in quality of horses anyway Legarto Wild Night Maven Belle Pier Sharp 'N' Smart Sacred Satono Dynastic Devastate Desert Lightning The Intimidator Prowess Wessex Cognito Waitak Best seller Polygon Lickety Spilt Cruz Missile
ngakonui grass
It could be that they look good against the oppostion that are fronting.IMO they have to front up in Aus

Buller Rep
Best group of Three Year Olds in years. Pete saying that Sharp N Smart being a good yardstick is spot on. Vanturk mentioning Lickety Split too. Anyone who doubts this years crop is sadly out of touch in my opinion.
Hesi
Feel free to post if you know or have read where these 3 year olds are going. Potentially the best crop in NZ in many years, so well worth monitoring
Hesi
Pier going to Horbartville Stakes on Feb 18 Maven Belle, 1 or 2 more starts in NZ, so that would probably include the Levin Classic, then off to Brisbane

Got out of maidens last week over 2100m at Te Rapa against a decent field (form-wise anyway) and is nommed for the Oaks. Currently $41 and many of the best 3yo fillies will bypass Trentham in mid March. MM

Hesi
I recall those thoroughbred shows in Aus, there was usually someone that had rung up all the stables to find out where the best horses were going to race next. Such a fine crop of 3 year old's, be good to know, without having to search everywhere It seems we have so many quality 3 year old's this year, that different options are on the table, instead of the standard Waikato Guineas, Avondale Guineas pathway to the Derby. There hasn't been a 3 year old race in the Herbie Dyke in the last 5 years, yet 9 are nominated this year
Hesi
Sharp 'N' Smart Thorndon, Herbie Dyke, NZ Derby, Derby in Aus, Queen Elizabeth in Aus, according to Rogerson anyway

Hesi
For once I would actually agree with you. Others like Wild Night and The Intimidator have made it look pedestrian when it came to the business end of a race

IMO it just increases the chances of SNS copping an injury. Maybe he's the next Fury's Order or Bonecrusher or woteva but I do wish he'd been scratched and waited for Te Rapa. Very brave in defeat, though, looked gone before the corner...the race and the float trip will either make him an Iron Horse and he's the next superstar ...or ...
