National Championships Super Tipping Comp Rules and entry thread for Round 1 - Sat Jan 11

PWJ

Recommended Posts

This will be a teams comp.

Start date will be Saturday Jan 11th. After one round-robin series where each team will every other team once, the top 4 teams on points will qualify for a Semi-Final round and the two winners of this will progress to The Grand Final is on Sat Mar 7 (Newmarket Hdcp/Randwick Guineas/Auckland Cup day). No HTD this time.

THE RULES

1. Players. Each team will consist of 5 players. If you can't play on a given week you may nominate a sub from outside the comp or have a team mate post for you although in the latter instance their selections on behalf of the missing player must vary from their own to some degree. We have an official sub available in the form of the very capable Smiler.

2. Draw. The draw will match each team against another team every week until all teams have played each other over ONE round in the Round Robin format. At the conclusion of the Round Robin section the top 4 teams will enter into a Finals Series which will be a straight knockout with the following format:

Semi-Finals

Game A - 1st v 4th

Game B - 2nd v 3rd

GRAND FINAL

Wnrs Game A v Wnrs Game B

3. Selections. Competitors are required to select two runners per race. No subs are to be posted. All selections should be posted at the same time although I may make allowances if this is not possible due to late arrival for posting.Posting the same numbers for each race is not permitted. I don't think your team mates would want you to do that anyway. You must post at least 6 different (initial) selections to your opponent if you post after them.

4. Scratching Rule. You may post replacements for any scratching by editing your original post up until 11.00am (NZ time) on raceday. Alternatively your Captain or team mates may post scratching replacements up until the start of the first comp race. The first replacements posted will be the only ones accepted.  If no replacements for scratchings have been posted by the start of the first comp race then there WILL BE NO SUB FOR THE SCRATCHING. The exception is Late Scratchings which if not replaced (before the first race) will go on to the TAB sub followed by the 2nd favourite by TAB win odds in that order. If more than one horse meets the latter criteria then the replacement will be the horse with the higher number.

5. Investments. Each selection will be regarded as an imaginary $10 win bet while if both selections start, a $2 quinella combining the two selections will also be credited to the competitor. So that's a $22 investment per race per competitor if two tips are submitted. The races will usually be split 50/50 between NZ and Australia.

6. Best Bet. Each selector may choose one race in each country as a "best bet" selection. All $$$ earned from these races will be doubled. In the event of scratchings the same best bet (BB) will apply. There will be no transference to a subsequent race. If your best bet race is abandoned - bad luck !@

7. H-T-H. The draw will pit individual players from the two teams drawn to play each other, against each other in head-to-head competition. The player with the most $$$ at the conclusion of the round is the winner for his team. The team with 3 or more winners wins the match.

8. Countback. If a head-to-head contest is a tie on $$$ earned then a countback will determine the winner by award victory to the player who uniquely selected the highest placed horse in the final event. In other words if you both selected the same horse that cancels itself out. It would be the two selections which are different which will determine the tie-breaker. If the selections are the same for the final event then the same parameter will apply to the penultimate race and so on.

9. Points. Teams will be awarded points as follows:
3-2 win - 2 points
4-1 win - 3 points
5-0 win - 4 points

Bonus points
Team profit bonus - 1 point
Losing team with higher aggregate than their conquerors - 1 point

So a well performed side which still loses may earn as many points (2) as a side which wins narrowly .

10. Bye Round. Each team will have one bye during the round robin stage. Team members are still required to make selections as usual. On that week the Captain of the "bye" team will nominate, before the first comp race, the match in which they wish their team to "ghost". This match will see the "bye" team's aggregate matched against the aggregates of the two teams in the match they have chosen. If the "bye" team has a better aggregate than one team - 1 bonus point will be awarded. If the "bye" team posts a better aggregate than both teams - 2 bonus points will be awarded. If the "bye" team makes a team profit, a further bonus point can be claimed.

11. Joker. During the Round Robin series, the team captain of each team may elect to play their "Joker". They must advise this in the post in which they make their selections. They may or may not confer with their team regarding this deployment. The Joker will double the final points tally for that team for that week. So it's possible to score 10 points (this has been done more than once) from a single round while it is also possible to play your Joker score 0 points and waste it completely.

12. Posting. Please post your selections by number (names are optional and unnecessary). If you post replacements for scratched horses then do so in a new post rather than edit your original.

13. Closing Time. There is no closing time but selections are only valid if posted at least one minute before the starting time of the first or any race. My decision is final in this and all other matters.

Round 1 against the Crusaders looks an absolutely winnable game for us Mighty Blues.

Looks like we'll be hitting the ground running, with 3 or 4 points into the bank, to really set the cats against amongst the weasels from the outset.

Crusaders still look a pretty useful outfit with plenty of wins in store later in the round ....but round 1 will see surely see sheer quality prevailing.

I can see the Turbos and the Ferdies cobbling together narrow victories in Round 1, to slot into positions 2 and 3 early in proceedings.

Looking forward to another super PJ team comp !

My first duty as Captain will be to organise a name 'upgrade' for one of our team-members - upgrade from 'Just Plodded' to 'Sped to Victory' or 'Speed Star'or something similar to those. Any which way you look at it 'Just Plodded' just sounds slow, and more in keeping with what you'd expect from rival miscellaneous teams.

I see the BANTERING has already started and this year I will not let it pass without some long winded RHETORIC .

So first off the rank, I will on behalf of the Cantabrians respond to TOO FAST and HIS Team the BLUESY Blues.

You see Too Fast as usual has got 'TOO FAST' in surmising us Crusaders are gonna roll over and let them win !!!! I can assure you Too Fast your SHEER ( I thought sheer actually meant something you see through) QUALITY will be bouts of the 'BLUES' not anything to do with being MIGHTY ....

:classic_biggrin:   Also I will assist you in the name for JUST PLODDED ..... As it stands I think TURTLE & HARE might be more appropiate, he might be your saviour throughout the COMP due to being slow and steady and then within a HARES breath oops (hairs) nabbing the odd opponent :classic_biggrin:

Aside from all this bantering as an ex-Aucklander I wish You and Your Team the very best in this comp ( but just a little against us ) :classic_tongue: :classic_biggrin:

2020 Cricket

2020 National Championship Odds

1) Hurricanes $2-80

The defending champions enter the 2020 summer comp in fine form, with three of their team starring in the SPRING Championship taking them to a comfortable victory, not to rest on their laurels, Captain Hurricane the very astute Say No More carried on his fine form by taking out the individual honours in the 13 days of Christmas, adding to this Hesinator has been rubbing shoulders with the big boys in the exclusive members only lounge picking up pointers left right and centre, and with TC returning to some of the form he showed on RC and VvD credentials and stocks on the rise an ominous warning has been sent out to all rivals, not forgetting the Warner Bros fave Porky who finished off the 9 days of NY with a flurry anywho enough of the Canes that's that's that's all folks

2) Ferdies $2-90

The powerful Taranaki outfit pressing hard for favouritism,  the evergreen PWJ who has been in stellar form leads a very inform team into a mouth watering clash against the Canes, with the likes of the ever consistent Moz  and the Crofty Pegs Pride (Heather) it's hard to believe with superstars as such 2019 Summer comp was one to forget A complete Shoka but with some clever recruitment or shall I say an evenly spread lol we find a very inform Ashoka who charged home in the 9 days of NY joining the inform Ferdies outfit Ashoka high up on the Radar of Canes team Captain, things are shaping nicely for the Ferdies and come March they'll be looking for that One Perfect Day

3) Blues $5-00

With Captain Fantastic at the Helm and a team jam packed with talent is it any wonder the Blues are well found in the market, an outstanding 9 Days of NY by Captain Fantastic and Bro right on his tail the Blues take two of the most inform players into the summer comp, and with the likes of the high flying Seagull who performed admirably in both the last two comps, the Blues have been the big firmers for the National Comp and with the ever reliable Gordy and the big Hitting Roland it's going to be rival teams whom will be singing the Blues

4) Kauri Kats $20-00

The Kats will be looking to sharpen their claws at 20-1 people maybe thinking they have LITTLE chance, but as long as they can avoid a ROCKY start and JEN together they are every chance of making the top 4 and once there anything can happen and with CAPTAIN MAXIMUS in the line up something will happen sounds like a Pantene add, their form has been a little inconsistent at times but not to be fooled you get the feeling they're only FOXING

5) TURBOS $40-00

Well this could well be the Blind leading the Blind with Roy Orbison or is it Ray with his pet Squirrel these two are of a different Canes type, however don't be fooled both with a little luck could've taken out either of the past two comps and the 40-1 odds could be more than a little generous if someone could switch the Globe on the Turbos may well swing into gear another good finish  in the 9 days of NY Steve P brings stability and 4 likes to his team mates, and with Gazza having spent sometime in Aus the Turbos could well be the smokies of the comp

6) Crusaders $50-00

The Crusaders have something to aim for at 50s that's the bulls eye every player in the Crusaders more than capable of putting up a decent score, and if any team is thinking of playing their Joker against the Saders do at your own peril Robert and Craig both in fine form and with Rex Rob and Tom all capable of putting up some big totals some big names will fall at the hands of the Crusaders

7) Chiefs $200-00

Well Well Well 3 holes in the ground, the 2019 Chiefs were lapped finishing with a dismal 4 points and the lowest amount of $$$ who knew!

The recruits have been brought in something had to give with the $$$ total so in with the B52 bomber Zabeel Gee Whiz dollars or donuts no in between the dice has been rolled enter Punter Pete has been mixing it with some of the Cane brigade so will bring a wealth of knowledge to the table, the backbone of the Chiefs Jack will be taking his fair share of victims and if we can forgive Stevie N for a dismal 9 days of NY maybe we can stop the landslide

That's it folks

The odds have been set now gamble responsibly
