ROUND 7 - Saturday February 24

It is the last round of the first Round-Robin and no less than 5 of the 8 franchises have a Joker of some description to play. Should be an exciting day !

We kick off at Hobbiton with a fascinating 8-runner contest for the baby boys followed by a R75 with plenty of form and a likely capacity field offering the promise of some good prices. Then after a lunch break for the scorer we have the feature 2yo girls showdown where you may have to decide if you have been *captured in love or are still in Alabama wearing an archaic smile while reciting a love poem*

Then we nip down to the Horowhenua (probably horrorwhenua for some) for that slightly weird race - the St Leger Trial - then we dash to Melbourne for a 3yo go where nearly two-thirds of the field are last start winners - there is a puzzle - then back to NZ for the WFA Classic with some big names after Gr1 glory.

Finally we see out the card with a trio of Group One races from Caulfield with a ton of stars hitting the turf and round off the day with an intriguing old girls go over 1400m. Real chance for an upset in that one !

The big match of the day is undoubtedly the top 3 clash of the agents of Kaos and Magic (who have drafted in that old wizard Porky to stand in for an absent Heather) separated by just a solitary point. No single player in this match has a negative formline so I am expecting the sparks to fly and some big tallies. It is top vs bottom as the minnows of Max Factory will attempt a *crossing of the Styx* despite a 22 point difference thus far in the comp with Styx looking to make a hay with a Joker play.

It is hard to believe The Seagulls trail The Reapers by 10 points so I think this will be closer than it looks on paper. Secret Squirrel is the inquisitor assigned to Rees this week while the Hesi vs Pete HTH is always a good watch. Lastly, the only side left with a Triple Joker to play - Old Mate - do not have the easiest of ties when they take on the razzle-dazzlers of Showtime (also brandishing a regular Joker). After some good form earlier both sides now find themselves outside the qualifying spots so a result is very important to either side. The all-Captain HTH of Maria and Black Caviar looks the feature personal battle.

Finally poor Barb needs to get that losing monkey off her back but faces a certain Howie who must have ten rabbits feet stuffed in his pockets with a 5-1 winning scoreline despite barely break $1000 aggregate. I see an upset on the cards....

Remember you must have at least 6 different picks (of 20) for those who post after their opponent

Please post on time. Let's have some fun and note the closing time...

It's our 'Double-Joker' play this week, and whilst we Styx will be hot favourites to win this one well we will however be mindful of the maxim 'Always Beware The One You Never Saw Coming'. The personnel within Max Factory have pulled off many a major upset in past competitions, and will be fancying their chances of doing so again.
Good luck to Barb who sets about upsetting 'Teflon' Howie with his deceptive 5-1 winning record, that solitary loss being to a marauding PWJ who completely failed to read the script that had been headed up 'Get In Behind', and badly over-achieved on a day when miserable mediocrity had been called for.
Best of luck, fellow Styx-ers. Let's finish this round-robin in style, at the head of proceedings,
Thanks for this very fine comp, PWJ.

Think with Max not even getting warm with the 'Triple Joker' last week , you should introduce the 'Quadruple Joker' special for any bottom placed teams PJ ? 😂

Only problem is we'll probably drop 2 points instead of the usual 1 point loss  😁😂

Maizey mate is gunna run us ragged anyway. best of luck mate . doing a great job leading up the comp ! Lead all the way the Styxmen .

smart opening move LB, first and second favourites all round including all 5 races in NZ, tough for someone like me who tends to stick around the top of the market to find 6 different picks

but would you have been better to open with the King's Gambit?

I always open with the Queen's side Maizey.

Had aspirations of being a Grand Master one day , but have faded lately ( just like my PJ horses picks actually ) from advanced to Intermediate . and could even be relegated to 'Beginner' the way it's going. (chess and Comps hahaha😂😅)  you play the 'King's Gambit'  my friend and you may speed to victory.
