2nd - 14 Lady d'Oro Q-$63.40

Just 4 on the former Kiwi who was placed in the Karaka Million 2 years ago. John gets his 7th winner for the day to cement 2nd spot. But New Year's Day belong to a masterful performance from Geoff who intends to give Richie (a rare scoreless day) a run for his money for the title of Christmas-New Year Champion !

That 's it
No more tips for Geoff ! 🙂
The tap's been well-and-truly turned off on that keg.
I thought Geoff was fading in this comp, age catching up on him ..... but now he's back and from all accounts a "live chance" of taking this whole thing out.
I gotta stay in front of Geoff ...I gotta stay in front of Geoff. 😄

Today's great score from Geoff takes him from 6th back up to 2nd but it was another consistent effort from bro Howie which hands him the lead with two rounds to go. Well done those Blues brothers !  Richie had an off day and slips to 3rd while PJ holds 4th. There is a gap then of over 15 points back to the pack headed by Dancing Show, Tom and Hesi with another 7 less than 12 points behind Dancing Show which includes the wily John who has begun his run judging by today's performance. Anyone on 35 points or better can still win the comp. I hope you will all stay with us until Sunday. Couple of interesting days ahead kicking off tomorrow with visits to the diverse locations of Tauranga, Tauherenikau and Eagle Farm. Thanks everyone and have a safe and Happy New Year,

Can you just confirm who can still win this, if the leaders falter tomorrow.

I make it 68 points cut off??

There is a maximum of 66 points available Alan. 2 days to go. The 7 days of Christmas Comp actually has 8 rounds

A guy beside me today was berating what he termed the "poor ride" by Sam Collett in the Railway.

I was happy to tell him that the difference between Avantage and Levante is that Avantage is a 'professional racehorse' with considerable experience at the highest level, jumps and runs, whereas Levante is a "newbie" (albeit an extremely talented one) and a work-in-progress. You don't walk from the gates and expect to win at Ellerslie, even in a staying race let alone a 1200m dash. That was Levante walking from the gates, not Sam Collett.

That killed that conversation, stone dead. 🙂

The pressure is on Howie!

Can you maintain a good gallop to the end?

Or in the immortal words of Bill Collins............... Have they gone too soon!!

haha, Craig ...absolutely !
I'd rather be storming from the clouds with a dazzling late finish out of the ruck ..... than leading them into the long Flemington straight a "sitting duck" as mutliples challengers emerge.
But it is what is ..... time to call upon some hitherto unseen nerves of steel. Cometh the hour and all that.
Whatever happens ....those magic words keep coming to me ........ " I gotta beat Geoff" ...."I gotta beat Geoff. " 😄

For once, and the words are choking me somewhat, I agree with Howie.
You notice I went for Julius and Advantage, leaving Levante alone.
A slow start from #1 at Ellerslie is pretty much fatal, and so it proved.
Horses for courses.
And note the races were mainly won by the senior jockeys Allpress, Johnson, Bosson and Grylls.

Levante has been slow or allowed to drift back to last in all of her 7 starts

Okay against lesser opposition, but you cannot do it against horses like Avantage, who is the best horse in NZ, or the Aus horses if she goes there, they will eat her.

Also, can't come from last wide and around a G1 field, average ride
