ROUND 10 - Saturday October 7

We start the day with our only race from "Hobbiton" a fairly open R65, before we head down the Awakino Gorge to South Taranaki for another very open restricted race leading into the NZ feature for the day - the Taranaki Breeders - with a few classy types on display. Then we make a quick dash to Melbourne for the time-honoured Edward Manifold (note-J Mac riding at Flemington) before we return to round out the card at Hawera with the Egmont Cup which looks a real head-scratcher, before an interesting restricted stayers to round out the NZ card.

Then it's off to Rosehill for two rich non-stakes features sandwiching the Gr1 Turnbull featuring a ripper and very even field. Last week showed everyone how important that magic "comp race 10" can be and this week's offering is the Gilgai with 14 charging down the Flemington straight six which gives everyone a chance.

This week's star match has the 2nd placed Magpies taken on by the 3rd placed Blues. Two very good sides separated by just 5 points with the highlight being the respective top scorers Stevie N and Pete meeting head-on.

The Ferdies have a bit of a home advantage for half the day at least as they host The Highlanders who are looking to get back in to the winning groove. Just 5 points but only one place separate the Swamp Foxes and Turbos in a critical match which sees these two teams straddle the qualification line for the Finals. The highlight of this encounter should be two of the top 3 on The Magnificent Seven scroll - Black Caviar and Our Maizcay - meet in a hot HTH clash. Or perhaps is it family feud between Rees and Ziggy ?

Lastly the Battle of the Basement sees a resurgent Chiefs (better aggregate) take on an ailing Kauri Kats (more points) franchise.  I'm expecting to see Jokers flying everywhere in this one !

Maurice's great unbeaten run came to an end last week at the hands of LB, now a Magnificent Seven club member, so the focus this week for the feature Head-to-Head has to be the clash of the comp's two worse aggregate scorers - Max and Gee - with just a solitary win between them and a formline with a string of duck eggs ! But hey there has to be a winner as Hesi discovered last week (and he needed less than $100 to achieve that). Who's your money  on - the Mighty Mustelid or King Gee ? Which one can find that elusive wonder wuffie ?

Lastly I would remind all Captains about Joker Rules, so work out your strategies with your team. It's quite easy to end up being unable to play your Triple Joker if you get it wrong.

Have fun and good luck everyone !

Remember you must have at least 6 different picks (of 20) for those who post after their opponent
