ROUND 7 (Final) - Sat August 15

Please note:

DON'T FORGET TO SIGN UP FOR THE SPRING SUPER DRAFT COMP ON THE OTHER THREAD. WE NEED ALL OUR REGULARS PLUS ANY NEWBIES WOULD BE GREAT !

12. Closing TimeALL selections must be posted 20 minutes before the start time of comp race 1 including best bets. ALL selections must be contained in the one post. If a competitor has not selected by the 20 minute prior cut off time then the Captain (or appointed team mate) may post up until 10 minutes before the start time of comp race 1. The Captain's own selections must be posted before the 20 minute cutoff - no selections, no entry after this point. Also any missing or excess best bets and any scratching replacements for team members can be posted in that period if not already remedied. No selections or scratching replacements will be allowed past the final cut off of 10 minutes before the start time of comp race 1. My decision is final in this and all other matters.

THIS IS IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ

I would like to remind everyone that while we all enjoy good natured banter, sometimes a few feathers get ruffled and some offence is taken. I am sure no one on here means any disrespect or malice towards anyone else but sometimes niggle continues for too long and becomes tiresome and irritating.

Previously on other sites this behaviour has ballooned out of control and basically destroyed all the goodwill the comps create. As a result I have abandoned running comps on those sites. Let's not get anywhere near that situation here.

Well thanks very much, StevieN ........unceremoniously dropped me out of 'The Serendipitous Six' ...my one hope for fame and glory this time around !! 😁

'The Magnificent Seven' made interesting reading... only 1 representative from the runaway leaders the 'Ferdies'...... 3 representatives from the Chiefs hasn't translated to topping the leaderboard.

Talented Colt Could Outfox Vain Rivals First Up

(Comp race #6)

While Foxwedge’s Group 2 winner Lunar Fox already has the score on the board, he is likely to appreciate slightly further than Saturday’s Gr3 Vain Stakes over 1100m, with the lure of the Gr1 Caulfield Guineas surely on the radar for his 3YO season. Lunar Fox was sensational when defeating Larmier Street (Brazen Beau) and Ole Kirk (Written Tycoon) in last season’s Gr2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes over 1400m at Flemington. That race’s form has been franked with the runner-up successful at Listed level, the third placed colt recording a Gr1 placing, while Holyfield (I Am Invincible) finished down the track before winning at Gr3 level next time out. Prepared by Horsham trainer Paul Preusker, the Jordan Childs-ridden colt will jump from the inside barrier in the nine-horse field where he should be able to get a good run in transit before making his run.

Another heavy track in Sydney is likely on Saturday but that is made easier to accept with a heap of carnival horses resuming at Randwick and Caulfield where I’m also keen on one.

R7 Randwick (comp race #8)

5. Sauvestre (3)

J: Brenton Avdulla (54kg) T: Chris Waller Career: 1:1-0-0

Flucs: 15, 15, 14

On a day where there’s quite a few shorties that I’m not keen to take on, I’m thinking outside the square here because I like this horse. The form out of his only run is impossible to line up because he and the second placegetter have not raced again since and they lapped the rest. In saying that they beat Achiever almost eight lengths, he’s a Saturday winner since and was only beaten 4-1/4 lengths by the highly regarded Peltzer. I think at better than $3 the place odds for Sauvestre is an attractive betting option here, I liked his trial behind North Pacific but he gives away race fitness to that galloper and that’s why I won’t be charging in at the bigger win on this weekend. In saying that I will be having something small each-way with a bigger go on the place odds. BET: PLACE or EACH-WAY

R8 Caulfield (comp race #10)

10. Savatiano (3)

J: Mark Zahra (57kg) T: James Cummings Career: 32:9-9-3 Last 10: 101x12766x

Flucs: 7, 7, 4.8 R8Caulfield

I was glad to see the stable scratched her last week from the Missile Stakes in Sydney because I had sided with the stablemate Flit – not that it did me any good but this is the sort of mare I love backing fresh. Look through her record, she goes like a bomb when fresh and over this trip she is able to dominate her races with her on speed pattern. Her trials suggest to me she’s coming up as well as ever and she’s shown over the past 12 months she’s up to Group I weight-for-age company so this isn’t aiming too high. Drawn to park right on the speed and she’ll be hard to get past if the breaks go her way in the run. BET: WIN

Friday Flutter - all the word locally (Muswellbrook) today is for #3 Meyisti in race 3 so I'm surprised it's still paying $3.60 FF. Good trainer/jockey combo

Each way special #3 Hard Faith in race 6. Currently $5.00/$2.00 but $8.30 on the tote. Goes well fresh in a weak field. Resuming today and won fresh up last campaign over sub 1200m trip. Could repeat

Spring dreams to start in the PB Lawrence (comp race 10)

Spring dreams to start in the PB Lawrence

Top weight-for-age performer Kings Will Dream has excellent fresh figures, something the galloper will be out to enhance in the Group II PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

The lightly-raced seven-year-old will campaign exclusively in Victoria during his upcoming campaign and his trainer Chris Waller says the son of Casamento (IRE) is “very forward in condition”.

“We’ve got the new all weather track at Rosehill and I was looking at the horses as a group on Tuesday morning and they as a group are very forward, he’s one of those horses and I think he will run a great race fresh,” Waller said.

“Quite simply he’ll keep all the spruik horses honest and if he gets normal racing luck, he’ll make his presence felt.

“He is coming up well. His races when resuming have been outstanding throughout his career.”

Resuming earlier this year Kings Will Dream finished third behind Alabama Express and Fierce Impact in the Group I CF Orr Stakes over Saturday’s track and distance and Waller said he plans to change things up with the gelding after he resumes on Saturday.

“This prep I’m going to space his races because I think he’s better on the fresh side,” he said.

“His next run will be in the Makybe Diva and then he’ll run in the Turnbull which he won last year and then another race later in the carnival.

“He was very unlucky in the Cox Plate last year but I think by spacing his runs by three to four weeks will see him competitive in whatever we run him in.”

Kings Will Dream is at $13 for his first-up assignment and will be ridden by Jye McNeill on Saturday.

The Final Round beckons - some big questions still to be answered.

1. The Ferdies need just ONE POINT to secure the title but face formidable opponents in the Crusaders who can still finish 2nd. Stung by just missing out on a last day shot at the title, the Cantabs will be out for blood.  Promises to be a thriller.

2. Should the Ferdies slip up on the Canterbury banana peel then the Chiefs - the comps highest aggregate scorers - need a 5 pointer, that's all 5 matches won with a team profit to boot. It CAN be done but their opponents are the Barbarians - a somewhat tricky side who can be very good on their day. Personal aggregates suggest a 5-zip win for the Chiefs but can they amass a team profit also ? Can they even win ?

3. The 4th placed Hurricanes and 5th placed Turbos face off in what is guaranteed to be a turbulent encounter ! The Turbos trail by 2 points but a victory for them could see them take 4th spot off their opponents and  5-zip win could even claim them 3rd spot if the Ferdies happen to steamroller the 'Saders.

4. The War of Wellsford sees the two northernmost sides but also the two least successful sides in the competition meet head on, on the Final Day. The Kats start the day two points ahead of the hapless Auks but the Jaffa Boys will not want to end the comp with a total downtrou over 7 rounds. The Kats can be hard to handle if they dig their claws in so this one will be a very interesting showdown.

Off the topic slightly and catching you in a winning mood here PJ! But will there be an enquiry into the points scoring, now Jungle Edge has been disqualified from the Grp 3  sprint on May 2nd ?😁😁

On checking I see that you had the runner-up Behemoth and if Jungle Edge had been put out on the day - then behemoth - you and the Hall of Famers would have defeated Howie's Much Too Fast crew - bad luck !
