PWJ Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 ROUND 8 - Saturday September 23 We kick off at Awapuni where the track is a Soft 9 with two dry days to follow but beware - 80% chance of rain on Saturday. If Awapuni is abandoned at some point and no more than two comp races have been run we will go to Arawa Park on Sunday to complete the round. Three Rating 65 contests with hopefully capacity (or near) fields get us underway followed by a tricky little R75 staying event before we zip over to Sydney to catch a form-filled Heritage burn. Then it's back to Palmy for the day's NZ feature stacked with all the usual suspects. We continue back to Sydney for a couple of Group 2 races where hot favourites Espiona and Waterford will ensure great prices on the rest of the field, before the day's NSW feature - the epic Golden Rose where anything could happen. Finally we conclude the day with the time honoured Underwood Stakes stacked with plenty of big stars but scope for an upset is a possibility - you know how important these "last chance saloons" are !. Clash of the day appears to be former leaders - The Magpies - taking on the progressive Highlanders. New leaders - the Ferdies - host a Turbos side looking to bounce back from last week's valiant defeat and on home soil for half the day at least. The Chiefs found form at last in Round 7 but now will need to be at their best as they face the redoubtable Blues crew. Just two points separate the Kauri Kats and Swamp Foxes in a mid-table duel with some intriguing matchups that's sure to be a ding-dong encounter. Remember all Jokers are reset. CAPTAINS - Be aware though of the need to tactically deploy your Triple Joker. Please read and be aware of the amended rule below: The TRIPLE JOKER is a separate chip. This can only be played against a team above you in the table with one exception. Any team will be able to play their Triple Joker against one of the 3 teams immediately below them in Round 14 if they have not already done so in Rounds 8-13. The double and triple Jokers can be played once in Rounds 1-7, and then once again in Rounds 8-14 as usual. It will lapse if not used within those timeframes. There is no "carry-over". The team captain must advise this in the post in which they make their selections. The TRIPLE JOKER will triple the final points tally for that team for that week. So it's possible to score 15 points from a single round. However if your team fails to score points when playing the TRIPLE JOKER, they will incur a 1 point deduction for that round. It's Carter's (Secret Squirrel) who is tasked with taking on the mighty Magnificent Seven leader Howie this week while the Ferdies v Turbos clash features 4 others of the Magnificent Seven so could be a high-scoring contest. Robert meets Gordy as the top scorers from the Chiefs and Blues face off. After seven rounds only Ferdie "Maurice the Magnificent" remains unbeaten with Zig tasked with ending this amazing run. The serendipitous Pam meets the unfortunate Rees while the hapless Hesi faces the Magnificent Our Maizcay - ouch ! In addition to Hesi only Gee remains winless and he will be hunting Moose this week in a battle that could produce plenty of trash talk I'm picking... Have fun and good luck everyone ! Remember you must have at least 6 different picks (of 20) for those who post after their opponent Please post on time. Let's have some fun and note the closing time... As I will be at the Gabba in Brisvegas, to see the Lions make the Grand Final (I've waited 20 years for this and the moment arrives 🏆!!) I am changing name to LIGHTNING LION this week please.
